This seems a little sketchy to me

For the last year or so I have been having problems with my 6.5 dying right after starting like you turned the key off or it wouldn't start. I haven't suspected the PMD as it has been moved to the skid plate. This was already done when I bought the truck back in '06. I have been suspecting a bad ground, now wondering if I have been wrong. I decided to do some digging and find two male connectors zip tied together with some shrink tube. I have attached a picture. Considering replacing the extension cable to see where that gets me.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Dave

9 years on a PMD is great, a new one would't hurt even if it is for a spare. leroydiesel.com has good extension cables and pmd's.

The female connector for PMD were not available widely at that point.

We put 2 male together with zip tie and heat shrink tube.
We connect them with pins.

That's a creative solution. When we were playing w/ it in the fleet, we cut of the connector, and soldered wires in between to run it into the cab. I wish I'd thought of your idea.

Kind of update ... I havn't changed anything yet. Friday I was digging around and noticed the ground wire from the harness was going to a bolt that looked crusty I pulled it out cleaned it up then added an extra ground wire from there back to battery. It has started every time I have tired it and hasn't died either. I have been thinking it was acting like a weak ground but only time will tell. I still have several other problems to deal with on the truck before I put it back into daily use... Coolant leak, Trans noise, other annoyances

Thanks,
Dave
