I'm getting my old truck ready to sell and when it sells that money is going into this one. I think I may know what I want to do lift wise to the truck. Any and all opinions are welcomed. What about a 4" Tuff Country lift combined with a 3" body lift? If they make them I'd almost like to go with a 2" body. The reason for the 4" lift is it's a bolt on lift so I can do it here in the garage and from the pictures I've seen it keeps the CV joints at a nice angle. The 2-3" body lift is kind of the same principle....it's something I can do here in the garage and gives me a little extra tire clearance. I'm not going to go crazy on the tires really....33-35" tires most likely. The other big draw to this combination is the fact that it's all just bolt on so if I wanted too I can remove it fairly easy.

Your 3/4 ton already has a factory 2" body lift, to accommodate for the Allison. Thats why they generally sit so much more stout than a regular half ton.

You can get a leveling kit and crank up the torsion bars to be able to fit 285's or 295's. You WILL get rubbing though unless you trim some off the front lower bumper.

Or...

Just get a lift kit now and dont mess with leveling kits at all. I should've gone with a 6" from day 1 instead of messing around wanting more and more ride height.

Here's from 2 years ago the day that I installed my Cognito leveling kit.

Here's the difference in ride height between a leveling kit with torsion bars cranked and a 4 wheel drive half ton.

This was 2 years ago.

I agree. I did the Cognito leveling kit with 295's and I'm thinking I may go with the 4" lift soon. I'm not sure whet to do in the back yet, blocks or springs. I tow with it so I think springs would be better. I don't know how long I amkeeping either. Here's a pic of mine.

I'll either be getting a 4" or 6" Tuff Country. The Coginto is nice! I might try to work out a deal with Norcal Nick and see what he can do.

Either way, a 4" gives the truck the height it should have been from the factory. And the 6", gives you a little more.

Don't mess with a body lift...the frame shows enough on the HD trucks already IMO. Why not just get a 6" suspension lift. If you just want to run 33's then I'd get a 4". I run 33's with cranked bars with basically stock suspension. Pics in my album.

X2. Go with a 4" or 6". I'm going with a 6" here soon....

Dont waste your time with a leveling kit if you have any inkling that you're gonna want a 4-6" kit in the near future.

I should've gone with a 6" from day 1.

This is 6" on 35's.

Since when did you have a 6" lift? "Shocks, pegs... Lucky!"

My job has been rather lucritive to me since I'm well established at this point. I also got my well deserved, yet very late VA benefits in one very large lump sum.

So, I may or may not have bought a Cognito 6"...):h

Woooo-HOOOO!!! Congrats Nick. I can't wait for your "build thread":smile5:

Hot damn, it's nice to hear that things are on the up & up for you. You had any more strange (closed doors, lights, glock sights) incidents lately?

I wasn't gonna do a build thread. Not my style to gloat at all. I'am very happy with my results though and Nick gave a deal I couldn't refuse. Full size pics in my garage, not album but the link under my avatar.

$$$ is the issue I'm having. I'm using the money I get from the sale of my old truck but it's going to be <$3k so that's just not a lot of money to play with. I want rims/tires and exhaust but the problem is that's going to eat up the majority of my play money. Doesn't really leave anything for a lift. Now, since I won't be getting a lift that'll limit what I can do tire wise and then it's a vicious cycle because adding a lift later will most likely lead to needing taller tires. 6" with a 33" tire just won't look very good. That was why I was leaning towards the 4" 3 piece lift because it's <$1k so I could maybe swing that after rims/tires and exhaust and keep it in the $3k range.

Awesome. That thing must ride nice now....I'm patiently waiting until I'll be able to buy a lift for my truck so the cv angles can be improved and it can ride nicer again.

I think if I were to do it all over again I'd do the lift first then the wheels/tires. Those are the highest dollar items. Exhaust money and programmer money are easier to come up with. There's only a few hundred dollar difference between a 4" and 6" lift...save the money and do it right.....no body lift.

I didn't do it. I had a shop do it. The truck was down 6 days. Didn't matter though since I worked 4 out of those 6 days.

I dont have the time, patients, help, or the location to do something like that. I paid $1600 even for the labor and tires combined. Thats not too shabby considering I went with BF A/T's in a 315/75/16.

Since I recently sold my car, that paid for the kit, and rubber. $700 came out of my pocket.

I dont have a DD. I have a company car that I spend more time in than my own house plus truck combined. My truck is solely for "pleasure" only and I really drive it maybe twice a week. I've put on 4000 miles within the past year if that tells you anything. I put on 2500 miles in a 2 week pay period on my CVPI, or around 5000 miles a month, on average. I couldn't justify having two vehicles anymore.

Sorry to jack your thread Orion.
