A 1997 Suburban somehow found me (I think I´m known as the weird gringo who loves diesels). Anyway its coming by this afternoon and I thought I´d ask you knowledgable folks if there are any new and strange things for me to look for? I´m kinda sorta dialed in with 95s but I´m sure there were a few screw balls being thrown a couple of years later? So if you can tell me anything I would surely appreciate it!
The Good is they are only asking aroung 2100 dollars. The Bad is it has some bad rust in the passenger side rear fender well. The Ugly....... I´ll find out later.

Thanks g

96+ you don't have to worry about the OPS. 97 should have the good airbox dual stats, but I'm not sure what year they went to the 9 blade fan

Thats great if it has the better airbox and no OPS! How do I read OBD-11 codes? Is the dual stats a better system?

it still has an OPS, but the LP is not dependent on it. You will need a scanner to read codes Car Code works well. The dual stats came with a HO waterpump and for quite awhile it was considered more desireable, but from what I've read if you use the HO waterpump with the single stat it's supposed to be as good or maybe better.

The stats are located in the xover as usual, it changes the upper radiator hose, where it will travel towards intake and around the A/C compressor which is on the opposite side as a 95.

The dual stat is alright, although its recommended to change the bypass fitting on the water pump to a restricted one so when tstat to the radiator opens more of it goes to radiator compared to right back into the block.

OBDII codes are read with several brands of scanner and I'd suggest getting one that will also allow you to erase them. I have an Actron unit, as one example, that I picked up at Autozone for about $150 a couple of years ago. It will work with any OBDII system and I'm glad I have it.

I beg to differ. I think carcode is confusing and glitchy. I would not buy it again. Forget about any kind of tech support. The guy who made it is some screwball that posted all kinds a weird crap on his half assed website. I have not tried Autoenginiuty yet but I hear it works much better. Any OBD2 code reader will work even the cheapies. So that you understand, products such as Carcode, Auto enginuity and of course a GM Tech2 are bi directional scan tools. They can do more than a code reader. Most can get by without it. I have car code and I use my 50$ code reader more. Some day Nobby will test the cyl kill function on AE so I can buy it...:D

In my line of work, we call that PiCNiC.

(Problem in Chair, Not in Computer)

:D J/k Kenny ... couldn't resist.
