Hi guys,

(Mods feel free to move)

A number of members have asked for photos of my spare tire carrier. For those with lifts or oversized tires (don't those two go together?) it has been wonderful to reclaim the space from the luggage area inside the Tahoe. Also, it looks COOL!

The company that made these has gone out of business, from what I can tell. I tried calling them to find a replacement grease nipple for the hinge. The one it came with broke off, and it looked like a 'custom' item. No matter how hard I Googled, and how many people I called, I came up dry. Happily, a good buddy of mine and I were able to use a drill press and a tap to make a new grease nipple. Works well.

Anyway, the holder is cleverly designed, and gives you good rearward vision, doesn't interfere with handling or loading/unloading very much. I like it a lot. The PO purchased it several years ago.

Anyway, for those who wanted close-up photos and considered building their own, here are those photos.

Sincerely,

Rob :)

From the title I thought you might have been talking about a new fashion accessory, that holds your pants up :D

Thanks for the pics, I had been thinking about a burb fuel tank for my K1500, but where to put the spare tire, this would work well, any idea if it changes the tow rating, of the original reciever.

Hi Tim,

My understanding is that it decreases the towing capacity by 30%, IIRC. I'll see if it is printed on the tire holder and report back.

I like that. I am going to put a Suburban Fuel tank were the spare on my truck is and have been looking for something like that. I even played with the idea of using a factory barn door style Blazzer/Tahoe spare tire holder, the kind that mount to the hinges and pivots out.
