hey everyone,

on the local online classifieds, I have noticed a few chevy NP205 transfer cases, and they are fairly reasonable.

arent these the near bulletproof gear driven cases that everyone wants?

if so, why are these cheap? most ads I have seen are only wanting $100-250 is there certain years that are not desireable?

What are the major changes over the years on the NP205?

any input appreciated, thanks!

I don't know anything about the year changes but back in the day the 205s were the gold standard. the early chain driven got a bad rap from weak chains. I assume they went with chain for ease of variability. the newer tcases are pretty good I have 250k on mine

IIRC they can't handle the torque of today's engines. They were a very reliable tcase during it's time. Heavy though from the build materials used. Not sure there were any major changes, only thing would be the adapter plates depending on what tranny the truck had.
