Took the '99 Burb in to get codes pulled on the ABS. Current code is C0221 Right Front wheel speed sensor circuit open. In the history, C0222 right front wheel speed signal open, then C0223 right front wheel speed erratic. Prior to these it's C0225 and C0227 left from wheel erratic and left front wheel speed open.

This time last year I replaced both front wheel bearings with new sensors. ABS worked until the left front sensor cable broke loose and frayed through. I replaced the left front sensor, but the ABS light did not go away. I've repeatedly checked the right front. No frays. Disconnected it from harness several times. ABS light still on.

Based on this new information, do I just replace the right front sensor? Is there some sort of multi-meter test I can do? About ready to order one from RockAuto.

You can do a resistance test on the sensor side. It should show some ohm (IIRC, 1000 ohm or so). If 0 ohm, then it is bad.

x2

Not long ago I searched on here as I have the code for my right front sensor. Mine tested open.

I put an ohm meter on the sensor side plugs and got the following readings:

RF: 0.78
LF: 1.80

Applied it to the harness side plugs and got the following:

RF: 14.5
LF: 14.8

I have no idea what the readings mean. I ordered an AC Delco RF sensor from RockAuto for like $29.

Alright, I pulled the rotors and had them turned. Installed new RF ABS sensor. AC Delco, $29 from RA. AC Delco is superior to the other offerings simply because the cable has 3 attachments which bolt into place versus the spring clips on the other offerings. The wiring cable slipping through spring clips is what caused the damage in the first place. Calipers installed with top of the line Raybestos pads. Need to torque the axle nuts and bleed the brakes, but need my wife home to do it (tomorrow). Turned on the ignition and the ABS light goes out. Fired up engine, ABS light cycles on, then goes out. Yeah!

BTW it's so nice to be able to easily remove the bearing bolts, this after having to cut out the prior ones. The job is now mere minutes. I've become a pro at this.

Next I'd like to get some braided stainless brake lines. Also would like to install a stainless brake line kit. I remember someone posting a kit here, but can't find it.

ABS light back on again

Been driving the truck around all week, smiling over the fact that my ABS light had not come on, that is until today. Pretty routine drive up to our home at Big Bear Lake to do some work. At some point on the drive back down I noticed the ABS light came back on. Now when I shut down and redraft, the ABS light does not come on until after I start rolling. The RF sensor is brand new, the LF sensor is 6 months old. I'm at a loss.

I had to take it into the dealer to pull the ABS Codes using their Tech 2. That costs $104 and for that I get codes plus a car wash. Is there an aftermarket code reader that will pull the ABS Codes?

If it's just sensors, those are $29 from RockAuto. I can change several for the cost of one Tech 2 reading at the dealer.

Make sure it is connected properly. The disconnect > clean > connect again may work.

When mine gave up, I can ohm test it but I am not sure for OBD-II sensors.
