This is a used "CORE" 6.5 Liter Turbo Diesel Injection Pump.

It will need rebuilt. (picture is from file but same pump style)

This was replaced at a GM Chevrolet Dealer by a GM Truck Tech..

I do not know why it was replaced but it was covered under warrenty.

I have a total of 3 6.5 pumps I will be listing seperatly.

I am selling this as a rebuildable pump.

The model number is 68 DS4 831-5521 J

The serial number is 126702256 17800077

GM Production date of 12/07/05

Buy the rebuild kit, rebuild this pump and used again.

is the description given for this pump.

how much should one gamble on a pump like this?

100 bucks?

same guy has another pump with these specs.

thanks for providing the going core rate bison.

I guess if it is in fact shot, I am out only 50 bucks.

how much is a rebuild kit, if anyone would happen to know?

does not really matter what a rebuild kit is worth, odds are you and especially myself are not qualified to do the job. Reason being I once emailed a Stanadyne dealer in my area for a price on a rebuild kit and he sent pics of a machine with tentacles and an explanation of calibrating things. Better off buying a rebuilt I/P or new I/P. Ed

Look through the thread on DS pump mechanical aspect only. Even if the pump is good if its sat in a poor environment and had old fuel inside for a long time it might get gummy and still need a tear down cleaning and/or rebuild even if it was replaced for pmd reasons. Also, you don't know the guy might have taken some stuff off to have a look see.
I would take it as described as rebuildable only to be safe. Without seeing it and knowing more details its just like you said a gamble. A generic stock picture tends to make me think its ugly. It could have been left unprotected in a lean to or even out in the open weather.

Now if you had good pictures and they guys describes it as being wrapped and stored inside protected waiting rebuild then I might spend $50 on it as a gamble. Its a fair bit of work so you are out labor, effort, and possible frustration also not just the $. That alone makes me not want to gamble on an IP!

I'd take the gamble at $50 each. The" GM tech" makes me think parts replacer not really tested to be known bad.

I would be cautious. Maybe it’s the years I spent working for the dept of corrections and working with all kinds of bad people, but there are some red flags that went up when I read your post about what the seller said.
1. He said it was replaced by a tech under warranty. Most items replaced under warranty at a dealer usually have to be sent in for further inspection or whatever. At least that has been my experience.
2. Why does he have three?
3. He conveniently states that he doesn’t know why they were replaced, making you or anyone that knows a little about these pumps think, PMD issue. Hence, a good deal. (NOT)

I would be wary, very wary. Actually I’d just stay clear. :nonod:

Lots of good advice, both ways... bottom line is, you're gambling. If the pump was replaced because of something simple like a pmd or even an OS, then it might be fine. I personally don't have the tools, test bench, experience, or expertise to tear one apart for a rebuild, although I wouldn't mind getting one just to tear apart and find out how it works.

Turbine Doc once told me that you really need a test bench to rebuild one, and those are awfully pricey.

This didn't help you make up your mind, I know that. The question is:

do-you-feel-lucky-punk.png :D

Well, I guess it comes down to me trying it out and hoping for PMD issue, or me tearing it apart to understand it a little more! Ive blown 50 bucks on worse things...:)

being young gives me a free pass card to do something dumb! :)

and JiFaire, I do! btw, if you havent seen Gran Torino, it is some pretty good eastwood as well!

Rebuild kits are just seals and 0 rings. These and bearings can be had at any hydr shop or auto store worth its salt.
Hard parts is a diff matter.
Rebuilding is a piece of cake(more or less).finding out whats wrong with it electrically is the problem.
Setting and checking the transfer pump pressure and operation and health of the electrical components requares a test bench.

okay, 1st one is sold, here is the wording on pump 2:

This is a used "CORE" 6.5 Liter Turbo Diesel Injection Pump.

I do not know why it was replaced but it was covered under warrenty.

This is number 2 of 3 6.5 pumps I will be listing seperatly.

I am selling this as a rebuildable pump core.

Buy a rebuild kit, rebuild this pump and used again? ? ? ? ?

Shipping will be FedEx or USPS.

With the Gm remanufature tag, does that mean it is an older unit that got rebuilt in 2010?
Is GM rebuilt pumps any good, or should I see if the last one is a virgin pump?
I think I missed out on the first one. sold for 75 bucks roughly with shipping factored in. it said built in 05

So true. :) Buy it. I've wasted 50 bux on so many things that offer short term enjoyment factors, that anything that is even slightly thought out is probably worth the 50 dollar chance/gamble.

Hell, when all is said and done you still have something left besides a rolled up one dollar bill and a strippers fake phone # on a napkin. lol

Dear robertborneman,

GM no longer wants the cores back on the 6.5's. I guess the demand for rebuilt pumps is less since 1998 was the last year of the 6.5 engine. My GM parts dept. manger was going to sell them for scrap so he asked me to list them on ebay and see if they could get us any lunch pizza fund money. They are all rebuildable cores so we hated to just scrap them for the aluminum weight value if someone could use them. Last summer I had to buy a pump for my Dads 6.2L diesel suburban and it cost me $375 with $125 core deposit. If I could rebuild and test these 6.5 pumps it looks like they go for $400-$500 and more if you do some tuning and stuff to them. I have one more after this one I will list and then they are all gone. I remember at one time about 7 years ago we had over 25 cores that went back to GM. The 6.2 pumps lasted much longer than the 6.5's.

Dear dr.w-30,

so I take it you are an employee of the dealership?

Also, If you dont mind me asking, how were you able to get the pumps? I thought when they are warranted, they had to have the core back?

Dear robertborneman,

Pump has been stored in our heated Chevy parts department. They are in the original plastic bags and in the new pump boxs. I can get a picture of the tag on this one but I will need your email address to send it to. Thanks

Dear dr.w-30,

Hi,
I was wondering if you wouldnt mind posting up or sending me an actual picture of the pump? (a picture of the tag would also be appreciated)

And also, how are these pumps being stored? (in a box, in a good shop building, in the house, etc.) condensation and corrosion are my concerns.

Thanks!
