I cranked my 95 Suburban 6.5 this morning and the starter stuck. Turning the key off didn't stop it. After about 20 seconds it finally stopped. I'm guessing the solenoid on the starter ?? Im hope nothing else broke. Any ideas ??

Was the engine running? If not I've had low batteries cause that to happen. If it turns over slow, then the stsrter will get the bendix hung out keeping the contacts engaged.

Ive seen it happen a few times. In the solenoid the contact plate arced and "welded" together. Pull the starter and see if your solenoid is toast. Sand paper is your friend.

Check the connections on the side post terminals, pulling that many amps for that long has a tendency to melt the threads out of the battery.

As above likely it's the starter solenoid. Possible the wires on the starter crossed to self energize. Look for loose wires on the starter.

I had my starter do that a few years ago. Replaced starter and it did the same thing!? It ended up being my ignition switch. Not sure how common my issue was but its more ammo for you to diagnose.. lol

I almost forgot about that, there was an issue with faulty ignition switches in the mid-90's modes (not the lock assy., the electrical switch) that killed system power or stuck in the Start position when the key was in Run.

Well The starter checked out OK so I reinstalled it and it cranked fine. I guess if it does it again I'll be looking at the switch. If it would stop raining a while, I might get the inner fender back on and get her back on the road.

They replace the solenoid or just 'tap' it with jumper cables and said "it's ok" after it jumps? Not to be a pessimist, but, unless they inspected the solenoid contacts they handed you a "unknown" back.
