Wasn't sure where to put this topic, but it's a 6.5 GMT400, so here goes:

My 98 has that stainless rocker trim from the factory.

I like it, but the PO had scraped the drivers door on something and creased it to the point of denting the door underneath slightly and pulling the top of the strip away from the sheet metal/rub strip.

I also had some rust creeping up from the bottom of the door that had made it's way under the adhesive.

So I pulled it off. Yup, door needs work before I loose it. No real surprise there...

Thing is, the passenger side is probably similar as it has rust in the same area.

Now, I'm faced with a problem:

Replace the stainless ($$$$$$$!!!!!) which I really like, or pull the rest off the truck (free, but not as nice looking IMO).

I guess the real question is how likely is there to be rust developing under the rest of the stainless trim?

Anyone pulled the stainless trim off their truck? what was the results?

I'm to a cost point with the truck right now where I'd rather not get in to lots of body work. If it looks good for another year under the stainless with some minor rusting underneath, I'm good with that....

The stainless trim isn't from the factory. It was added . LMC Truck or summit racing has good prices on replacement trim. A blow dryer and a razor blade should get the trim off.

if your removing, it,, and have a torch,,, put on a rose bud tip,, and flash over it several times, 4-5 in away, and quickly,, it will get hot fast to where you can peel it off easy,, and then go to your local auto paint supply co and get a 2-sided tape removal rubber wheel, it goes in your drill and will rub all the remaining adhesive, and foam 2-sided tape stuff use to adhere it to your paint, with out damaging the paint.
