Catching heck from my wife because I cannot get my '89 6.2 Suburban primed and back on the road.:grumble: I had just finished doing a service (oil, filter, lube etc), so I was just about done and I changed the "square filter of doom". Lost fuel system prime and have not gotten it back since. I need to get my burb back on the road. New to the forum, need help getting it going again. In my great ignorance of trying to prime the system and getting it going again I started it for too long of a cycle and bang!!!:rof: There went a starter bolt giving up the ghost inside of the housing(to my dismay-no starter support bracket was in place, whole reason for break). Now I have to drill and tap the bolt hole. It is more of a time consuming issue more than anything. I just want my Detroit humming again!!! Help guys!!!

Round BFG of fuel pumps is the Walbro to get you through Doom. Plug off the leak prone mechanical pump. Also check your fuel system for air leaks that may prevent you from getting a prime.

Quick update on the broken bolt issue...Its out!!!! Here is a link to what my suburban looks like on my YT channel. Have a good'un!!!!

If you still have the factory Mechincal LP(garbage) then the only way to prime it is use a hand pump. There is a bleeder screw(big plastic one) on the top with a tit on the side. There was a Kent Moore Tool that was a squeeze type hand pump that would draw the fuel through the filter. You could use one of those handpumps for bleeding brakes or you could take the fuel line off on the effluent side of the filter housing and get a piece of hose and connect a push-pull pump like the oil burner guys use. Best to do what AK said, Lose that junk. A factory LP for a 93 k2500 6.5TD will supply all the fuel you will ever need. Becareful using any other type of LP. A LP that generates excessive pressure can screw with the advance. I'm running a Raptor but it's adjustable.

Update on the "Square filter of doom" problem. Found out it was my lift pump. The old one would not even "buzz", just would sit there and get really hot. Purchased a new one (framemount) tested it before install and it almost shook out of my hand. On to a new problem...batteries. The redtop "Opti-crap" have left me stranded twice now. They just do not seem to have enough spine to spin the 6.2 diesel the required revolutions to fire it off. Any suggestion on group/size/cca for this engine anyone?

I have always used Sears Die Easys with good luck. They are cheap, work good and can be returned with ease. Think there was a batt thread here somewhere. I personally do not like Interstate. Every set that I ever had they failed prematurely.

I have had Interstate Megatrons in the past and still have a pair that are woooooh:eek: ten years old. Still work ok getting a bit weak now. I do put a charger on them on a low setting overnight every 2-3 months. Just that will make lead acid battery's last and last.

Also I keep a little clicker electric fuel pump around with long wires with battery clips and hoses just to test and prime with. Very handy tool.
