Ive got a buddy with a 95 6.5TD and it has a new injection pump, 10,000 miles on a new engine, 240,000 on injectors and the rest of the truck.

The PMD is in the stock position.

It is sputtering and blowing whitish/blueish smoke above 2500RPm and has no power.

It also starts very hard and very smokey with a lot of white smoke. He did replace the glow plugs.

Wondering if it is the PMD or if you have any other ideas.

240,000 on the injectors????? and a new engine and ip. Chances are very good that cheaping out on not replacing injectors may have trashed the engine. Replacement is recemended every 100,000 miles or less if heavy towing.Old worn injectors will pee a stream rather than make a fine mist. The peeing will melt a hole through the top of the piston. Worn out injectors will not hold residuial pressure in the line and will drip after shut down. The excess fuel will wash the oil off the cylinder walls and cause heavy smoke on start up untill it burns off. Replace or have the injectors rebuilt.

 You will feel a difference with new injectors.

Sounds like his lift pump aint working, like the OPS is dead. Need an ACDelco OPS and do the relay mod, and get a 93 year LP.

Lift pump testing is very important. Without a gauge, if I didnt hear it buzzing after shutdown I didnt feel comfortable. Have him run it in idle and pop open the petcock on top of the filter manager. If its sucking air for sure going to kill in and no LP running. There is a drain on the front attached to the thermostat housing, he should be draining water regularly. So he should be chekcking that the LP is running regularly. To drain it you can make the LP run with some tricks. or just open the T valve while its idling and let a cup of fuel/water drain out. Should be doing it at least monthly.

Relocating the PMD is also not an optional thing, so regardless if it is the problem right now or not it should be done right now.

Timing could be badly late.. Do you have acces to scanner or autoenginuity?
TDC offset should be checked and if it is ok another thing to check is what is desired and actual injection timing when it sputters.
