Does anyone know if there is a do it yourself fix for my odometer? About a month ago my odometer quit working(trip meter too) but my speedometer still works. i tried doing some research but didn't come up with much info. Is there a gear that can be replaced that drives the odo? I was also looking at replacing the whole cluster if it couldn't be fixed. I found a few diesel clusters on the big auction site but was wondering if anyone knew if the cluster has to be a 96 model or if a 97 or newer one would work. I posted this in the interior section but didnt get any response so thought i would try it here.

Go to chevytalk.org and send a PM to someotherguy

He has fixed them before....you might even be able to pull up the thread on chevytalk.org but a PM will get you some better results....he is a good guy that knows his OBS trucks inside out....

What i found out is that the small plastic gears inside the cluster get old/wearout/break and if your speedometer still works it can be fixed fairly easily. There are some pictures of how a 95 and up dash cluster comes apart on chevytalk.org(very helpful). Not sure exactly how the older style is but it sounds like they are almost the same. Good Luck!!
Also.....there is a link there for a site that sells the gears!

I am having the exact problems 1991, and I tore into it, and found the shaft not completely seated, i seat it, and rotate it by hand, and it catches bigtime every mile. enough to torque it out of the socket. luckily, the odometer/trip meter unit is easily changeable.

Tearing into this looks intimidating, but it is not too bad. try to do it with the right tools though, as it is a PITA without, as i am figuring out! (its working, but i need better tools!) keep everything laid out and organized, and you should be fine.

The cluster warns one about static, so my static prevention is working on my wood topped metal desk, which i touch the metal frame before playing w/ cluster.

So this week I am off to the junkyard to get a 1990 or a 1991 dash cluster to cannibalize, as the font was new in 1990, so to get it to look right, i need 90 or 91.

Oooooooo - Odometer & Trip Meter on my '91 hasn't worked in years.
Can you supply a link to the info on DIY fixing it? Please! Even Pretty Please!!

Check out the link. I am sure they can put pics up of the 94-older cluster if you ask. Its a good site!
