I just purchased a diesel truck with a 100 gallon spare tank in the bed. It's gravity fed and has a shut off valve & then fuel filter prior to feeding into the factory tank. So its too big to continually be filling it up, so if I'm going to use this maybe once a year for longer trips is there any thing I should be concerned about while its empty such as fungus growth or condensation?

If you use it, by some biocide and put some in before you fill up as a good precautionary measure. Keep the filters clean and should be fine.

just keep it full all the time. when ever you run your main tank to empty, open the valve to fill it up, then shut the valve. then you can go fill the big tank up again, thus keepiing it full and not breaking the bank and keeping the fuel pretty fresh too. Not to mention, with it full, your ride will be much better.

Oh man; it's like $400.00 to fill that tank :mad2:

I have never been able to understand this line of logic.

Actually, around here, diesel fuel is selling for $2.64 so 100 gallons would cost $264

But so what if the tank holds 100 gallons? You'll STILL have to pay that much for 100 gallons of fuel no matter if you buy it in one sitting or multiple fuel stops.

You can buy 100 gallons and pay $264 once or you can make 4 stops and pay $66 x 4 for 25 gallons at a time, which still comes out to $264.

The large fuel tank can actually save you money by allowing you take advantage of instances when you find fuel at lower prices. It also saves you time, because you don't have to stop as often for fuel.

And if you consider the old phrase that "Time is money", if you don't have to make that many stops, you are actually saving money.

Plus, you always have the option of NOT filling the big tank if you don't want to. :rolleyes5:

Some good points but the wife may blow a head gasket if I bust the monthly budget. I know the math is sound :iagree: Fuel here in my part of WI is $3.65 today dropping from $3.69 earlier this week. maybe your prices are a sign of things to come my way

Wow, I wonder why it is so expensive up there?

Great points Ray. The auxiliary tank also has benefits if you travel long distances. You never have to worry about running out of fuel!
