Hey guys i know this topic has come up here before, but as technology is always changing, im sure the answers will be also.

I am looking to purchase a cord and scanner app for my iphone 3. I have a big code reader, but it always seems to be somewhere else when I need it. Having the phone app with 2 cords would allow me to have the ability to read/clear codes almost wherever i am.

Just wondering if anyone is using anything like this and if you have any recomendations. Mods feel free to move this if you feel it would get a better response in another section

thanks
Nick

This will be used on alot of different vehicles by the way. More so for diagnostics than anything else. I just want to make sure it will work with everything including the 6.5

I've always liked this stuff:

Palmerperformance.com

(please excuse the non forum vendor link)

I don't use the Iphone version, but I do have dashcommand for PC and Scan XL.

It';s good stuff on the PC and it seems to support what you want for Iphone.

The good thing about thier programs is you can create your own guages and define what PID's you want it to display. You can display each and every parameter that the 6.5 can support if you have the PID. I use carcode to "sniff out" the pid's I want and program my own displays in dashcommand/scan xl. You can even support some enhanced GM PID's if you get half decent witht he program.

Troubleshooting is very basic, but it gets the job done. there's no two way communication other than clearing trouble codes.

Lots of nice extras in the program as it uses the iphone acceleromters to perform near "GTech" like functions.

Thier support is outstanding. I bought my programs around 5 years ago and they give you lifetime updates. About two years ago they raised some prices and completely rewrote thier software. They sent me a link to download all the new stuff and new activation keys.

They have a forum on thier web site for thier software, it's active but no extremely so. I've always gotten fast answers (couple days tops) to my forum questions by the developers. Email responses are usually withiin 1 business day.

You will need a wifi obdII dongle to go with it. This will have to be bought seperately.

The program is 50 bucks and you can probably get a dongle for anywhere from 80-150 bucks.

Thanks for the info...I had seen in an earlier thread that you were using the dashcommand so i looked into it. There seems to be alot of information to be had from that program...probably alot more than what the 6.5 gives out. Although I think it would be worth it just to be able to watch the intake air temperatures with different filter settups.

Well I pulled the trigger and purchased the goLink GL1 cable. Cord was right around $100. Im going to use it with their free app which is available through itunes and see how i like it. If i feel i need more information or dont like the program, ill probably spring for the dash command. Most of the programs available all list the GL1 cable as compatable with their programs, so I didnt mind dropping the cash for it.

Ill let you guys know how it works and take some screen shots of the program

Does anyone have a list of 6.5 OBDII PIDs? I'm using Torque Scan on Android and thought it supports trans temp, I believe the GM PID is different than the generic one. Also my gauge set is very limited compared to say my work 2008 Sierra which makes me think they made some odd PIDs for the 6.5

I would be interested in this as well, my ScanGaugeII has the capability to input different PIDs to read different values. Trans temp is supposedly supported, but the PID I input gives a reading that seems to be in Celsius even though the manual claims it is read in Fahrenheit.

Pretty sure Torque uses metric figures no matter what.

I ordered a $15 bluetooth dongle off of e-bay for scanning, for shit and giggles. For $20 (scanner plus paid form of Torque app), it's the best, cheapest scanner any of us will ever find, lol.
