Hey all, I need peer pressured into a bad idea.

http://twinfalls.craigslist.org/pts/3693370116.html

the guy bought it for 300 bucks and sold the tires and wheels off of it. (here is the original ad: http://twinfalls.craigslist.org/cto/3684801028.html it is actually a GMC, and the guy talked him down 100 bucks)

he really wants to part it out, sterotypical scrap guy, thinks it will pay out about 700 just in scrap, and he has to haul all the way to utah to deliver his scrap loads.

it is a local truck all its life, Ag dealer first, then a construction company. idaho doesnt use mag. chloride, and little salt, so it is rust free, and real straight body wise for its age.

245K miles, motor ruined via oil cooler lines. NV4500, 4wd.

he wants 750, and its sitting on blocks. what do ya'll think?

I have paid about the same figuring wheels and tires for black holes like this.

Turbo as bearings will be shot. ATT time...
Surplus military engine $1000 out of Utah
Rings 60-600 (normal-gapless)
Head studs ~350
Injectors ~$500
Glows
oil cooler
Clutch
U joints
Oils for diff, trans, etc.
Brake lines?
Front end rebuild? ~$1000 in parts
Alternator upgrade
Batteries?

Possible you are able to rebuild the 6.5 in it, but, cracks would make this questionable.

He got a pretty good $400 with wheels and good tires. I'd do that. Not sure I'd buy it for $700 unless you have some of the stuff war wagon listed or its just going to eat up cash. Or unless you think it would be better than any of your other trucks you could canabalize.

I doubt it will bring $700 in scrap. Maybe $500 minus towing expense to scrap. I think he knows you like the truck and trying to make gravy on the deal.

basically here is what happened. farmer had it, hired guy ran it out of oil. (farmer described how his dad "fixed" the oil cooler lines with hyd. hose) advertised on CL for 400.

scrap guy offers 300, goes and gets it w/ wrecker, about a 10 mile tow. sells wheels and tires for undisclosed amount. otherwise complete truck sets there for 700.

I have a engine out there in Idaho that will roll over, then it hits something. roll it back, hits again. I am hoping dropped valve. therefore, I can maybe put an engine together out of the two.

schiker, funny you should post, there is a twin to your truck on the same city's craigslist. ECSB NV4500 and all.

you found it! If i win the lottery, the expensive search is on for a factory 6.5L 5spd 2wd half ton! :O

so, any other hoarders think I should go for it?

how do you suggest I get it home with no wheels? can the hub adapters come off and 3/4 ton wheels put on? obviously can run 3/4 ton wheels on the back.

you can run 3/4 ton on the fronts too. It's the same bolt pattern, the duallys fronts are just wider. It may look dumb, but it'll get you to where your going.

matuva, if you dont mind me asking, what do you folks pay for project trucks such as this?

I think I will call tomorrow, at least buy the IP and see if I can talk him out of the rest.

GM Guy, for such a truck, here in New caledonia, you could not expect less than $ 3 000.00, for a K1500

For a 1996~1998 Silverado K1500 X-Cab, depending on mileage and body shape, and if in working order, price is in the range of $ 13 000.00 up to $ 19 000.00

Considering this is a K3500 Dually, even with a dead engine, it will probably not less than $5 000.00, and even more

We have several K2500 here, but I know only 1 C3500.... Kind of a rare item here ;)

BTW, will you keep the rear bumper? :)

thanks for the input!

well, I am going to play poker with him a little, I agreed to buy the IP today, we will see if we can talk him down any. still thinks 700 with no wheels or tires. when my buddy in the area picks up the IP, he will see what all is damaged and if she still is worth buying.

well, so much for verbal contracts. engine and trans were sold nad he never called back. I called to ask about other stuff then he told me. also said it was likely not removed with care, so i can see all sorts of damage done getting it out.

I think I am better off giving up on this ol gal. :(
