Trucks & Accessories 1983 chevy k2500 low milage diesel 6.2 L new 4wheel drive rebuilt transmission rough body needs fuel pump and head gaskets would make a good work truck or toy these things are tanks off road they were made to be beat up give me a call very economical for a diesel 20 mpg aveage when i drove it i just dont have time to finish but i got you a head start i put 900 dollars into it and am asking 900 obo please give me a call


Should I consider looking at this truck, his cousin said I probablly could get it for 600.00. Does fuel pump and head gaskets signal some horrific problem for this engine? I don't know a lot about the 6.2
 
How bad is the body on it? By fuel pump do you mean IP or the mechanical lift pump?
 
I have not seen the truck, guy I work with said it is his cousins truck and the body is in pretty good shape. I have no idea if it is the lift pump or IP. What does a good rebuilt IP cost, and a lift pump. He said his cousin would probably take 600.00 for the truck. He also said the truck runs just does not run long before it dies

you can get a rebuilt IP from pensacola diesel for 295 USD.

I did a fuel lift pump a few years back and i think it was around 30-40 CAD.
 
The 6.2's have a mechanical lift pump driven off the cam like a gasser. Get rid of it and put one from a 6.5 on it. I converted every 6.2 I owned to electric. As far as headgaskets it will be as easy if not easier than a gasser but watch out for cracked heads. They are the easiest diesel you will ever work on. I often regret selling the ones I had. Remeber 6.2=no turbo so very easy dissasembly. The stock mech lift pump is a very common failure.
