Ok this is a weird one.
I have a shake the whole truck vibration that gets worse with more throttle. I can watch the coiled radar power cord on the visor in the cab vibrate and feel it. If I power brake you feel it bad.

I started the truck to show the issue and it wasn't there. Powerbraking and all. (Full stop and rolling powerbrake makes no difference to the vibration.) Drove around the block and still fine. Then the cold advance high cold idle kicked off from 1000 RPM to the normal idle RPM. Then the shaking under power started.

Idles fine without any miss.

Just vibrates severely like it is missing when you are stopped and powerbraking or normal acceleration. Will do this less when it is fully warmed up.

As the cold high idle/advance makes the difference a lot of stuff is eliminated. Like Transmission and bad engine mounts.

Harmonic Damper just replaced - did it before. Drive shaft timed as it was out of time... Lift pump 8 PSI engine off and 7 PSI running. New air and fuel filter. No smoke.

Only thing I can think of is the inj pump timing is off. :confused5: That or the timing is changing in the pump rapidly. Maybe restricted return line varying housing pressure and advance or fubar light load advance stuff on the side of the pump??? Hmmm I will have to check that but any common failures?

Advance ideas for timing changes that may or may not be the cause taken from here:

I would seriously think about replacing the ECM/TCM with all the troubles you seem to have. This the same truck with the No OD,NO tach ?

What tranny? Could be the dual mass flywheel if it has one or a bad torque converter. Do a compression test, could also be bad injectors.

4L80E just rebuilt. DB2 mech pump. 125K. Not sure if injectors are OEM. 5 Glow plugs I could get to tested at 1 ohm.

Injectors bad. Compression test will be done with replacement/rebuilt units being put in.

Bump.

Changed injectors/glow plugs
Harmonic damper changed.
New engine mounts - old ones broken.
Had issue before auto trans rebuild.

Vibration is only while moving. Full brake stall is fine. Full throttle and brakes on the floor doing 0 MPH is fine. That is until the brake is released and truck starts moving. Higher the load like a trailer or dragging the brakes the worse the hop/vibration is. Full or part throttle has issue.

Cold advance on/off no longer matters. Possible repairs above made a difference.

Is this normal or what else do I check?

Like AK said, bad U joint rear in drive shaft or steady brg gone?
Front axle issues maybe, bad CV joint?
Loose/broken spring shackle in the rear axle?
4x4 staying engaged?

After watching this happen during initial acceleration at the shop we are down to a weak carrier insert for the 2 piece drive shaft. The drive shaft visually jumps/vibrates. Shop says it is common on high torque diesels esp Dodge with 2 piece drive shafts.
