Ok, my saga continues :mad2:

Dropped the burban off at the diesel mechanic to set the timing for the new IP that I installed and to fix the fuel leak. Mechanic removed the intake, now the security light is on and will not allow truck to start.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Todd

Todd,

Very odd from what you described last night that you took the truck to the shop without a no start/theft issue to now having one, do you think thay changed the PCM ???

An IP swap would not have caused your theft deterrent to kick in, a different PCM would.

Another thought, possibly a PCM fuse issue again after the short you had before blowing it? or some damage now you did not have before immediately after the short ??? grasping at straws here.

You need to check with the shop to see exactly how they tried to do your timing learn and with what kind of scan tool did they use?

FYI and for the shop you took it to; as you can see from Als override "how to" above, like I texted you the "chip" is not in the key, the comms are between the PCM and the module in the steering column.

Mechanic removed the intake to fix the leak.....why ???

You don't think he pinched the OPS or another wire or forgot to connect the gnds on back of the pass side intake not knowing that is what controls the PCM and now it is not powering up?

Remember our discussion the other day when you found you had pinched the OPS wires, if something was working but now isn't unexplanedly, look to the last maintenance action performed, this case removed the FFM/hose and gnds by an "expert".

Todd I know you said you were time strapped, but quickest way to kill a 6.5 is to let a Diesel shop or stealerships "experts" you have never used before work on it.

I'm the only one I allow under my hood, in rare case if I'm out of town and my wife is in a bind/need for the truck or burb, I might let a mechanic under the hood, but only after they agree to my specific instructions, if they deviate they "own the screw up".

This case you mechanic wasn't quite honest apparently they did not really know about the injection timing of the 6.5, hence my question earlier to know how they attempted to time your truck.

To his answer to you, nothing on my phone as a missed call or a voice message from him for me to assit him figure this out; offer still stands, have him call me for some pointers.

Thanks Tim,
Will find out more details tomorrow. Been kind of frustrating because my 1st job does not allow much flexibility as far as phone calls, but tomorrow, at my second job, I will be able to communicate with them much more. Also, the shop is just 5 miles from my second office.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks,
Todd

Ok, I finally got the burban back. Diesel shop fixed the fuel leaks and set the timing. In the process of removing the intake to fix the leak(s), they apparently did something to trigger the security feature on the truck. It sounds like they pulled one of the glow plug wires out of the connector when they removed the intake.
Don't know why that would have triggered the code, but that is the only thing that was different from when I removed the intake (4 times).

They reflashed the computer (my software was out of date), then did the relearn and code finally went away. They were happy to see me go.

The truck runs very smooth, but seems to be sluggish. Seems like I had much more power before the IP started to go. Also, according to my Scanguage, my mileage is much lower than before. Scanguage reading could be a function of the new computer software, IDK.

FYI the ground for the interior of the truck is one mounted to a passenger side stud intake bolt. When I owned my 99 that ground wasn't clean & tight, and I kept having passlock issues. My guess is when they removed your intake it didn't like it too much.

I asked them about the two grounds on the stud closest to the pass. side firewall. They said is was re-grounded when they took the intake off. That makes more sense than the rogue glow plug wire.

Thanks,
Todd
