after 2-10 sec's the curser freezes up,[its on a gateway laptop with a touchpad] you have to touch the touch pad to restart it,,ive allready tryed running scans and nothing

First thing I check is for heat build up. Look underneath at all the vents and check for dust. They do fill up and lack of air flow kills them fast.

What are you doing when it hangs?

I know that downloading PDFs with Firefox will cause a hang. If you click on another item in the taskbar then back on Firefox you can change tabs.

Let's see...Not knowing what Operating System you are using, or your comfort level messing around under the hood, you can go to your Administrative Tools and check your event viewer. That will tell you the source of the error which will point to to what needs to be corrected.

I like CCleaner to check the registry for errors. That will get rid of orphan drivers and dll's that can cause conflicts.

You could also right click on your hard drive, go to properties, and select tools, then error checking. It will need to reboot to complete this. It looks for errors and attempts to correct them.

What kind of scans did you run?
