have the opertunity to buy a used snap-on MT2500. Will it be able to take of the needs for a 6.5 or not. Iknow it can read the codes but what about the other items timing, offset, shut off injectors, among the few items?

Does not shut off injectors, or command TDC offest, but does all other bi-d commanded stuff, how much for the scanner, and what year cartridge coming with it, TDC # displayed in a MT2500 does not match a GM T2s display, adequate tool if price is rite. I have conversions you would need for TDC MT2500 vs. T2

guy actually has two of them.
1. scanner with 4 carterages and no cords with box $200

2. scanner with 12 carterages lots of cords and adapters, lots of keys $700,
books and updates
Its on craigslist youngstown ohio.

thanks TD. I think I will hold out and get a t-2 or laptop with the GM scan program.

I would pass on #1.

Depending on what cartridges are included and dates of them #2 isn't bad.
I paid around 500 for mine with most of the cords and keys and foreign and domestic (4) cartridges up to 1999.

The only big plus to the MT2500 over the PC based scan tools is that it will do both OBDI and OBDII. That was the only reason I bought mine instead of Autoenginuity. It doesn't have the functionality of the PC programs or the Tech 2.

IIRC your 94's are OBDI and you can get by alot cheaper with GMScanTech ???

It all depends on if you are working on stuff other than GM.

I mainly wrench on GM products. So in reality I need the best bang for buck on GM stuff. From what I read here GMTD scan is the way to go right???

if working on multiple vehicles a PC based software tool like professional Auto Engineuitywould be best, or the MT2500 is a handy stand alone tool, I'm like you I work on multi branded vehicles/vintages, with MT2500 being superceded the price/availabilty of used but good MT2500s has come down

Just went engh motors webpage the tech setup with cable is $185 US. seems resonable to me. Didnt know what the price was. or do i want the autoengineuity? I just have to find a cheap laptop now, wanted one any how!

If I go with GMTDscan will it "burn" the chip they way I want it or not? Almost reads that it will.

Engh is OBD-I only not sure if working multiple vehicle it's one you want, PM member NVMTNLION he worked with ENGH on beta test of final version, and would possibly be able to give you some specific info about that one, that I just have basic knowledge of, IIRC no scan tool "burns" chips they are for diagnostic, you'll need programmer for "burning" and unless going into chip business probably best bang for buck to just buy a proven program from one of the folks that do that for a living.

GMTDScantech is for 94&95 6.5's only. It won't burn a program but will read all PCM engine codes, shut individual injectors off, initiate a TDCOffset learn and more.
You won't regret it.

For OBD11 I have CarCode, for $225 US it will read any make vehicle including 2008 CAN protocol diagnostics. I've barely used it so can't say it's the answer.

I don't 'think" autoenginuity works on OBD1 which is what you have. To my knowledge only Tech1/2 or GMTDScan. Tech 2 is crazy money. 1500$ Used if your lucky. Tech 1 around4-500$ but only works on OBD1 IIRC.

I've made it this far without a scanner, but what are the options for OBD2? Shutting off each cylinder and TDC learn sound important. IT sure would be nice to double check all my gauges and stuff.

There is a interface available for a tech 1 to be used on obd2. A seller on ebay has them. They are made by vertronics, same mfg. as tech 1. I was looking into it for my tech 1[$200 w/ mass storage]
