Looking at an Innova 3140 scan tool.
Does CAN OBD1 and 2

Seems to be a very good quality unit with all sorts of capabilities.

Any input on these units.

It says " General Motors – 1982 to 1993 and some 1994 to 1995 models" - "Some" may mean our trucks.

Personally I like the software programs[gmtdscantech] better than the tiny screen pricey scan tools. I have the tech 1A just for the 92-93 trucks and my 81 cutlass and 87 monte SS.

The OBD1 GM Diesels are not covered by most tools (GMTD scan being the exception)

I need a good tool for scanning the 98 Explorer and other gassers in the family.
The 89 Blazer has a OBD1 5.7 TBI
The kids have a 99 GMC 2500 pickup

The tool I am looking at is one in the lineup that will do both OBD 1 and 2.

The 95 Diesel (DaHooooley) is pretty easy to figure out its issues with a code reader (have one) other than doing TDC learn and such, I dont really need a scanner.

Will probably get the GMTD scan sooner or later.

Still working towards getting the 84 Blazer 6.2 back on its feet.

Too much on my plate with other stuff right now.

The ses light came on in the Explorer the other day. Had it scanned at Auto ZONE and it was an Oxygen sensor giving issue. The light went back off again so for now we will just keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the concern. All fine here

For your 95, Get GMTDScan. Trust me, it's worth it. In fact I think it's a must have and if you dopn't like electronics or things that are a PIA to figure out, you'll like that program. VEry easy to use. As far as everything else I would go with AE. You can get the domestic package and cables for around 600$$ and it covers everything domestic to current and is bi directional inlcuding the 6.5TD. It's what I plan to buy. Otherwise you could scrounge around eBay for a Snap on Brick(MT2500) It's a good scanner just out dated for stuff made in the last few years. It is bi directional with the 6.5 but from what I saw with TD's the readings on timing are off. You can pick up a Brick for 2-300$ if you look around a little. When it comes to buying scanners if a scanner is not manufacturer specif (GM, ford etc) bi directional, then you might as well buy the cheapest you can find cause all they are are glorified code readers and a 40$ one will read the same codes a 200$ one will except you may have to look up what they are on the internet. easy to do.

Biggest problem I found with most of the OBD-1/2 Scan tools I researched (by calling the tech support at the manufacturers) was that they will not do the Diesels. That is why I ended up going with GMTD ScanTech for my '95. Way cheaper than the Tech-2.

GMTD has a scan tool available for free. Ya only need to get a USB Scan Cable and both Kennedy and GMTD have them available.

The only thing I am not sure about with AE is if it will do OBD1 6.5TD. I don't think it does. You can also use a GM Tech 1 for 94-95 . They are relatively cheap if you can find one due to being obsolete. I think that is what Engh desgined his off off but I could be wrong.

I dont think the Innova is Bi Di
It will scan for codes as well as give real time data on the sensors.

As far as changing things in the programing , I dont believe it will.

But, this tool will allow canceling the SES light so ???????

I have downloaded the GMTD scan and looked it over. Just need to go ahead and order the cable and pay for the license.

I just needed a good scan tool for the OBD2 gasser thats parked outside and figured that having a tool that will do the 89 Blazer and other OBD1 rigs would be a nice way to go.

Far too many of the OBD2 tools will not retro to do the OBD1 rigs.

If I can read the codes and see the real time sensor data, I can figure out wasssup if something is Hinky "Usually" ):h

MGW the Carcode while not having all bells and whistles of some of the scan tools for OBD-II seems to work well for those that have it. Also MT2500s are going pretty inexpensively now on ebay since Snap-on has a replacement for it now.

Fully aware that GMTD scan is only for OBD1 (94-95) Yesssssssssssss

Will take a peek at Ebay.

I can get the Innova on sale through my local parts house fairly right $$$$$

I have purchased a couple scanners in the past Off Ebay and had issues only to have to deal with the manufacture directly over the phone and or mail.

Dealing locally, at least the local guys will take care of me.

I can get the same Innova scanner off Ebay for less $$$$ but I really hate to wrap big $$$$ into an item I can't handle first.

Me and electronics have this thing ya know.

Thanks for the ideas and info
