I have a 6.2 diesel that run good. And one that might run but unsure so it will be sold as rebuider's. I also have 2-1994 6.5 turbo diesels for sale that run but are weak. 1-1995 6.5 turbo diesel that spun a bearing. The two 6.5 diesels that run and 6.2 that run are still in the trucks. MAKE OFFER

is how the ad reads.

I was wondering what you guys with experience in this art would offer this guy? right now, I am thinking of trying to get the 95 engine with the spun bearing for the heads. as far as the ones in the trucks, I may buy them complete if he so chooses to sell them complete (who knows, one may be a 2wd 5 speed! :O :D )

I was thinking 50-100 bucks, depending on amount of useful things.. (f-code intake, good exhaust manifolds, turbo, etc) frankly because i think that 50 and under would be insultive, and over 100 would be too high of a gamble on heads that may be bad.

am I thinking along the right lines, or would you seasoned experts persue it in another fashion?

any input greatly appreciated, thanks!

well, called the guy, pretty nice guy to talk to, fairly knowledgeable, but he is thinking a little higher than I am. He wants 500 dollars apiece. He also said that if he couldnt get his 500, he was just going to use them for his own projects. So it sounds like if I dont want to pony up, I wont be getting any 6.5s.

if one was known to have a good set of heads, would it still be worth 500 bucks to get one?

I've been paying $2-300 for complete engines with bad bottom ends. Got a whole 97 k2500 for $400 a couple weeks ago.

usually you pay less for the complete vehicle because then you have to deal with the residue. If he wants $500 for an engine I would have to inspect it for cracks etc. might just be a pile of scrap iron otherwise.

How does he know the engines are weak, are these engines in vehicles or already out? If the 94 599 engines were checked for cracks and it is crack free then I might pay $500 for it, but not without that. Not when you can go on liquidation sites and get a whole truck for $150 or 3 blocks or full engines for $150.

Ask him to sell them on condition of no cracks or you just pay the scrap value of it around $75 depending on local scrap yard prices. Otherwise the price is fair IF they are rebuildable. Recall Military surplus guaranteed to run, and test run, is $950, 6.2's and $1500 for 6.5 plus shipping.

A whole truck might go for $3k, but you just dont bid on those. I see lots of 6.2/6.5 blocks with no heads or one head or no valve covers or stuff like that go for $150 for a lot of 3.

buddy, by weak, the guy meant lots of blowby, higher oil consumtion, harder starting.

so you guys are saying that 500 bucks for one of the two 94 engines isnt too bad, as long as he is willing to drop the pan? with the spun bearing, the 95 engine is worth quite a bit less, but by how much, if its heads are still good?

thanks for the responses
