I finally got my in-bed sander from a friend of mine. His new 8' Salty Dogg came in yesterday so we pulled his old "2.5yrs" 6' Salty Dogg off his truck and set on mine. He paid $4k for his new sander and sold me his for $2k which i thought was a great deal for a stainless unit that he only used for 2.5yrs. He was anal about keeping it greased/oiled, new plug every year and only ran Mobil-1 oil in it. I gave him a hand installing his which was a good learning lesson of how mine works. I ran 3 loads of sand through it today and besides the sand freezing up it worked flawless. The last load of sand was mixed with salt and i had no problems with that load at all. What an animal this truck is to plow with now. Going to have to be careful not to break the blade now with all the weight pushing. I will post pics hopefully tomorrow.

I'm in the market for a sander myself. I first started looking at tailgate sanders and now have been looking at smaller v-boxes. You got yourself a great deal. How hard is it to pull the sander off? I'd assume you would need a hoist of some sort....

You an me both, I just bought a yard of Magic Salt and a yard of Salt Sand. Spreading it by hand sucks !!!!

I pre-salted all my driveways to eat the leftover ice and loosen everything up, then after the storm today/tonight I will plow and wait for the sun tomorrow to apply the sand/salt mix.

For the really bad driveway's I use Magic salt, 1/2 hour the ice is gone, but it is expensive !!!

I am down to either a stainless AirFlo or a Fisher Polycaster.

I like the Stainless AirFlo the best, but at almost $4800 installed I think I'll pass for this season, I will look for one over the summer.

:D

I took pics of it today but i havent gotten them on the puter yet. I took the truck to a place i used to work at to get it weighed loaded but apparently the scale is inop right now, it said my truck weighed 3,140lbs:nonod:. The sander is very easy to remove, all i have to do is unplug the harness at the front of the bed, remove the 4 restraining straps and lift it off. The manufacturer was smart enough to put a cross support on the inside with a hole for a slip hook right at the balance point. I will be using my mini-ex to lift it off and i will be setting it in the back of my dump trailer until i use it again. I am thinking of building a pole barn this summer at my other place to store sand/salt and will probably leave a bay for lifting the sander off with an electric winch. This way it will be under cover when not in use, it wont be occupying the bed of my dump trailer and i wont have to bother trying to start the mini-ex in the cold  .

Here is a couple pics of it on the truck and loaded. It squats the truck pretty good but what a difference when plowing.

Absolutely, In fact, you wont even need 4x4 while plowing. thats the ONLY thing I miss about my sander. Clean your truck out good everytime you use it. When I removed mine after the winter i had a solid 8"x 24" salt block that sat underneath my chain. The truck sweat salt until mid summer.

is it just me or does it look like the frame is bending a shit-ton in the first pic? it almost looks like you have a dump bed that is slightly raised :eek:

I am not too worried about the salt right now, i decided to leave the bedliner in so the salt shouldnt bother it much. I think the gap between the bed and the cab is creating an illusion. The bed is offset to the right a little on the frame so that too may cause this illusion. I never bothered to have the dealer fix it as it doesnt bother me nor the trucks performance. I will be watching the front of the frame for cracks even more now, this thing is just awesome for pushing banks now. I cant wait to get a V-plow now. Like said i can plow probably 75% of my driveways in 2X4 but i have noticed the rear tires are wearing very fast this year.

take the liner out!!! it will effect it much worse with the liner in than out. them things like to shift around and all that stuff, so any salt or sand can get caught under it, then get rubbed/eat through the bed alot faster cause it has no way to get out.

I have been planning to get a Rhino-liner this year, i have been putting it off every year but this sander is a good reason to have it now. The sander is mounted to 4"X6" PT that extends to the front of the bed so it cant slide forward. There is also a mudflap bolted to the rear so salt doesnt get thrown under the truck and corrode the hell out of it.

great planing with the 4x6 and the mud flap. trust me, its not enough. good thing you want a spray-in. my uncle has preatty the same setup with his trucks, and his 02 F-250 (take it for what it is) had a hole in the bed two years ago. it may take a while to get that far, but it just might happen.
