Rocker arm retainers

Hello everyone. Still tearing out my motor and going over in my head all that has to be done. I’ve found several versions of rocker arm retainers solutions and I wasn’t completely satisfied. I’ve decided to go with my own rendition. Didn’t like the pop rivet idea, even though I’m sure it would be just fine. I also didn’t like the metal on metal of the steel washers on steel bolts. I’ve decided to go with the mechanical locking nuts and bolts along with an extra thick nylon washer. While all this is experimental I feel the combination is going to provide the rocker retention and wearability I’m looking for as well as valve train noise. Kind of the best of both worlds.

Be careful to not squish the nylon warsher. That might cause it to crack and break apart.
I believe a grade 8 thick washer that is smaller than the OD of the nylon warsher might be a good option for spreading the load. 🤷‍♂️

How about a thin stainless washer on top of the thick nylon washer? I think that would be even better.

This is just a washer I had laying around. Not stainless and not at thin as I want but it does back more of the nylon washer than just the bolt. I think I’m gonna buy some stainless washers the same size just thiner and see how that goes.

Ok the nylon washer was too wide. Wedged in the rocker. So I chocked it up in my drill and sanded it down to the dimensions of the original button. Fits good and has the same play as the rocker that came out. I will say these washers are tough and didn’t sand easily. Didn’t use the washer on top.
