Ok. Thought it would be better to start a new thread.

Found a potential replacement for my 99. It is presently in a 92 but the motor is out of a 98. Truck it is in has 300,000km but the guys says the motor has 180,000km on it. The IP is off of the original engine & had been rebuilt & is mechanical. Can you do that or is the guy just sh#$%$# me? I don't know yet if it is a F or S engine. He thinks it is a F. The engine is still in the truck & can be heard running & can be driven. He wants $1200 for the whole truck. I might be able ot beat him to to $1000. It sounds like it could be a good deal.

Will this be just a clean swap for me or will I have to frig around with stuff to make it work? It is in a reg cab & mine is ext. cab. Does that matter? Do I have to worry about it not matching up to my tranny or are they all the same? Will I have any computer probelms where it is a mechanical IP & mine is a electronic? My engine is a F. If it is a S is there anything I have to do to my truck to make it work? Is there much to changing the engine? Looks pretty straight forward. Can't be any worse then the headgasket replacement nightmare I have just gone through.
 
If you put your IP and intake on it(if it si not an F) use your trans, then you should be fine.
 
You can but the ecm wont be happy and the gauges prolly wont work. Don't get me wrong it can be done and alot of the guys here have done it. I am sure one of them will chime in here soon.
 
Use everything off your current engine and it will fit fine with no issues. That sucks about the block. You pic was very blurry but I am assuming your freind confirmed it wasn't a freeze plug ? I have not generally heard of external cracks on these engines other than from freezing in the winter however I have seen freeze plugs rot and leak.
Make sure you unbolt the torque convertor from the flywheel before you pull the engines on both trucks.

Just use your accessories and IP and whatever else off the outside is slightly different.

You can mix and match any of these beasts. The only issues come into play if you are trying to swap stuff from a Van engine which uses a different intake bolt hole angles and some other slightly different parts so they can stuff it in the van chassis.


The Old 6.2's will work too if you use the later 6.5 heads along with the front cover so you have a place for the crank sensor (also need the reluctor and short nosed ballancer)


Enough on all the different combinations.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS it will work fine.

Dicker him as far as you can or until he screams.

Well that motor sold. Too late.

It funny you mention a van Missy cause I just called about one that is in a van. It's in a 96 & has 250,000 km on it. New injection pump & new computer. I asked him if the IP was electronic or mechanical & he didn't know. I am assuming a 96 would be electronic. Will the motor still drop into my truck as is?
 
Van engine (motor ??? harumpfp, since it takes combustion & not electricity to make it go, it's an engine :D)

Won't be a direct drop in, possibly a N/A engine, or center mount turbo, reconfigure for the side mount turbo/intake system and that should the the majority of work you might have to do.

I don't know if the IP will work if it's N/A, give Bill Heath a call he might be able to answer that.

I saw on ebay last night a new bare block says it is from Canada that looked interesting if you want to rebuild with new parts.

Thanks Turbine Doc. I saw that block you are talking about as well. I can't find a second hand engine I am willing to take chance on so I have decided to sell the truck as is. Guy came today to put some money down on it.

Do you have a link for it?

Also if you have an auto, it won't shift without the electric injection pump.
