For those that have installed one, a few questions.

What brand have you used?

Where is it connected?

My oil filter adapter is leaking and I've never been a fan on the "lying on it's side" filter orientation on the Full size GM 4x4 trucks.

I'm looking to replace my filter adapter and move the filter to a more convenient location/orientation.

Do regular SBC remote filter kits work on a 6.5?

I bought the Summit Racing generic dual filter mount, modded/drilled/& tapped the OEM 4x4 engine oil filter adaptor, & plumbed it w/ AN/braided stainless.

Here are a couple pics. The bottom of the filters tuck up fairly nicely above the level of the T-bars.

The same pics in my album might come up a bit bigger/more detail if needed.

additional pic to give a better view of the filters/mount location.

Hello great white,

I used PermaCool products (remote dual filter mount and block adapter... I can dig up the part numbers if you need them), stainless steel braided hose from Summit and home-made bolted-brackets to attach the remote filter mount onto the AC bracket (had I finished wiring the garage for the MIG welder, it would have been simpler). To change oil I only have to go under the truck to remove/reinstall the drain plug. There is enough room to install short to very tall filters. I like the dual filter mount because you can install a fine and a very fine filter if you want. See attached .jpg files.

Franko, what kind of filters are you using?

They were sold by ChrisCo (now defunct), billet aluminum, stainless steel mesh 20~25 microns absolute. I believe PurePower and SystemOne continue to sell their own. I was fortunate enough to buy several directly from Chris, the president/inventor when he gave me a discount ($85 ea.) fter I explained I was going to use them for biodiesel, veggie oil, engine oil and tranny oil applications -- I was just to send him pics. He stated that it could be used for engine coolant filtering, too.

I've run the System 1 filters on a couple of turbo gas engines. I was hesitant to run them on my 6.5 diesel as the better, new synthetic fiber disposable filters claim to filter down to maybe 15 microns - which was part of my thought in running parallel flow, dual filters to limit overall oil flow restriction.

I see System 1 has one of their cleanable mesh filters recommended for the Powerstroke Fords. Would be interesting to see if anybody running one has done & posted oil analysis results?

I don't necessarily know if my concern over the somewhat coarser filtration of the cleanable filtration in our fairly sooty old 6.5 diesels was justified? I didn't worry as much about it in the turbo gasser hobby cars as they weren't daily driven, so an oil change every 1500-2000 miles didn't cost much. With my daily driven 6.5 truck's setup taking ~ 11 qts, preferably synthetic oil, & 2 high quality oil filters - the oil changes cost enough to warrant a bit more thought on what's the best reasonable cost solution.

Hello SmithvilleD,

I share the same concerns but compared to the off-the-shelf paper filter media products, I could only do better with the non-bypass 20-25 micron washable media using synthetic oil. With the dual filter set up, I could install a Baldwin 2-5 micron parallel to the stainless steel filter to trap more of the soot and get more miles between oil changes (heck, if I finish my DIY continuous centrifuge, I can just keep polishing the used synthetic oil for reuse BUT you should consider the spinner-type centrifuge filter a member or two sell -- nothing but positive results with on-vehicle and off-vehicle applications... even at $500, it should pay for itself in short order).
