red light on the mirror???

anybody know what the red light on bottom right side of the mirror is? it is on the rearview mirror with the on-star buttons. This morning is the first time I have ever seen it on.
I don't have onstar activated since the original subscription expired.

oh, and its on my truck in my sig.

It means your truck does not have onstar reception... think of your cell phone losing reception. The light would change from green to red in my 01 on occasion, and I didn't have the service hooked up either.

There's something in the owner's manual that tells what the red light means, whether it's on solid or flashing IIRC.

ah, that explains it then. we are just getting the bad weather from the hurricane. thanks for the help. My owners manual is back in MD in the desk or somewhere...

well, I have been looking at that little red light for weeks now. I doesn't matter what the weather is, its always on.
Do you think it might be that when they changed over to the new system that the old ones all think they lost signal? I have a good mind to take the fuse out.

I don't know if its bad or not but I took it off to check it the other day, it looked all clean inside the threads, so I put it back on tight to see if that helped. it didn't.

any body else seen this? I am still looking at this danged red light. I guess it aint got bad enough to take out the fuse yet.

If I do take out the fuse, will it shut anything else down?

have your vin # checked, for build date. IIRC the 4.5's were iffy on when they got the "newer" onstar receivers. all the 05 and up trucks/cars have the "newer" receivers. very well could be that they changed over already and you have one of the "older" receivers.

Fixed it!

When I changed out the overhead console I must have left the little microphone unplugged or didn't plug it in all the way. At any rate, it was unplugged :arf:. Plugged it back in and no more red light on the mirror.:banana:
