In the middle wrapping up the last leg of a camping trip with the spouse when the SEL light came on this morning; typical P0380 but it was probably around 70 deg this morning and I don't even think glow plug controller would've even turned on. Cleared it and went about the morning, but it came back again later. Second time I thought back that maybe I caused by maybe not waiting for the WTS light to turn off before cranking. Made a mental note to check tonight for anything obvious when we got back but the light never came on again, and we made multiple stops.

Anyways, back at the site I'm looking around for anything to address when we get home later this week (don't have many tools so not like I could do much even if I found something). I couldn't find anything but while looking around it stood out to me just how much of "nest" all the wiring is back there. It's all just kinda laying on top of each other and makes it hard to do inspect stuff back there without magically growing another set of hands to lift things around. I actually replaced the GP controller last year and it was just an absolute pain to accurately get a multimeter or 12v probe to stay back there while doing other things.

I'm almost certain at some point there had to be some harness clips that kept it better organized and spaced out a bit (or GM just put the engine cover on to hide the mess!)

So, while I look ahead to doing some more GP problem probing in the near future, I want to see if one of you owners of a super clean 96+ could share a pic or two "back there" so I can see if there's a way to tidy stuff up, or provide confirmation that it's just an OEM mess back there.

P0380 would possibly be a blown GP fuse, or ECM fuse. a bad or GP or shorted wire to one or more GP's or a failing relay. some aftermarket GP relays I have read are crap when it comes to these engines. best insurance is to replace the GP's with AC Delco 60g plugs. if the ones you have, have some miles on them, I would plan to replace them. don't get the ones that do fast heats. they tend to swell and break off giving you a hard time. the 60g's are self regulating so they only will get so hot and last longer. the down side is they take a couple seconds more to heat up.

as for a bad wire, 9 times out of 10 the wire going to the #6 or #8 down near the turbo down pipe had melted and is shorted to the exhaust.
