Recently, my Blazer was hit on passenger side by a M****r f*****r who was exiting a parking without checking if somebody was coming...

Had it repaired and repainted at a body shop, but now, it seems that the rear axle tube shaft is possibly bent on that side, and the drivetrain can't be properly re-aligned.

Mechanic says this can't be repaired.

So, I believe I need a new rear axle :mad5:.

According to VIN, I have a 10 bolts GT4 AXLE,REAR,3.73 RATIO 3.73R(GT4).

Question is: can I use a rear axle coming from a K1500 truck, a 14 bolts, as long as I have a GT4 3.73 ratio?

Somebody already did that? Plug and play or some mods to do.

May be should I take the opportunity to swap to a 2000 silverado (gasser) with brake disc if I need to modify somthing anyway?

if you can get a good price on the disc brake rear I'd go that way in a heartbeat unless it required alot of mods

The semi floater 14 bolt from a light duty 2500 will bolt right in. Did it on my Yukon. As long as its a 6 lug you are good to go. The only thing that will need to be modified is your rear u-joint. Will have to use a saginaw-1350 joint if I remember correctly.

Any source for that? That's intersting, even though I don't tow... I've been browsing the web but can find any

The slip yoke will accomodate some difference. You of course don't want the yoke too far out or in the t-case or trans.

There are special 'swap' ujoints that are 1310 and 1350 to make it work. Never had to use one but have see them work out well.

1310 to 1350 was the two sizes IIRC...

There are 6 lug 'Salisbury' 14 bolt semi-float rears.

Something to read: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/questions-gm-14-bolt-rear-71143.html

Maybe not the right name for the 9.5" GM 14 bolt SF rear.. I've always called them the Salisbury 14 bolt. Must be local vernacular.. All the truckin friends I have around these parts know what it means.

They used them in 6 lug Tahoes and even a 5 lug version in the 454SS truck, light duty 3/4 ton 2500s.. and others that aren't surfacing in the memory bank.

Did you go through with this swap yet? I've been doing reading and apparently all that needs to be done for the swap is a conversion u joint or simply swap the yoke from the 10 bolt to the 14 bolt semi floater.

Was the axle from the 99 Sub a 4wd axle? The 2wd and 4wd LD ( 10 bolts, 14 bolt sf ) axles have different widths.
