OK I for the most part usually try to be civil with stuff but let me tell you after 4 hours of trying to get this POS trans pan not to leak I want to get on a plane, fly to the guys house who made and beat the SOB in the face with it until the coroner needs dental records to ID the corpse. What a POS. I should have learned form the old small block chevy days. You look at those nice chrome Moroso Valve cover and say "I want those" but you aint got the money and you buy the cheap ones and the leak leak leak. Same here. This is the worst made POS I have seen since those days. 4HRS taking it on and off, trying different gaskets, Trying High Tack and finally Aviation Perma tex which we all know would seal the Titanic, Nothing work. fluid literally ran out of the mating surface. Finally took another gasket with no sealer, put the factory pan back on, no leak,. If you eye ball this thing you can see how warped it is. A total piece of worthless s@#t. DO NOT BUY IT. And yes TD I know you have one which is where I got the idea, but I think you got lucky. What a total waste of time not to mention I stripped one of the trans pan bolts from taking it on and off so many times. It was the only part of the truck that didn't leak. Old saying, if it aint broke , don't fix it!!
OK Rant over.:mad2::mad5::cussing::angryfire::rippedhand:

I'm learning that aint broke don't fix it lately too... Its a shame. I absolutely will not replace a part until it breaks anymore. I learned my lesson recently with the crank pulley. it just seems things are being made so fast and cheap....

I enjoyed your rant, it felt good for me too, as that's exactly how i feel at times of poor product that some idiot let go past him knowing it was fubar. Always screws the installer. ALWAYS.

You chose the correct avatar Kenny. :). Think of your tranny not being blown, that gave you a few days of happiness.

I was just there with my Powersteering pump, installing and removing various pumps/resevoir/new unit/reman, just waiting for one of my lines to break as each effort gets faster and sloppier.

For that same reason is why I allocated myself 2 full days to do my oil pan, which hasn't leaked a drop since. I can't imagine a worse job to have to do twice.

My rants over too. Thanks Aces. Somehow I feel better after posting this.

Me too although I still want the guy who made the pan to die a horrible death...:D
It was a beautiful day here and something that should have took 20 mins denied my family a trip to the lake to go swimming. I gotta tell ya , today almost broke me, I was really thinking about dragging both these rags down to the Dodge dealer for a new cummins.

Happy happy joy joy. I just looked and I paid the guy directly with credit card. That suckers getting boxed up and sent back.
I just shot him an email.

Whoa there partner, mine is a PML pan and has always been a PML since 2002 when I installed it , says so in my signature, that said I have a Derale trans cooler, which is a separate cooler mounted under my bed rated for 25K of load with a thermostat controlled electric fan on it,

ON a lighter note the trans, which I believe is original, was spotless inside. No metal and almost nothing for clutch material. The factory trans pan gasket was much nicer than anything I got at autoparts. It was a composite material with an imbedded rubber strip. I have to use a paper one to put tha factory pan back on but I'm gonna try to gran one of theose gaskets from the Stealer.

I tought you was old enough to know by now not to fix things that aint broke:D

That pan is prob made in china, may wanna cook and eat it as you suggest in your sig):h

We all have our bad days Kenny, but yours was self inflicted(just yoking).
maybe a :grouphug:makes you feel better.

Kenny - Thanks for the 'heads up'! I was considering Derale as one of my choices for an extra-capacity pan. The other choice was a heavy cast aluminum pan with external fins. The Derale was less than half the cost, so it's been mighty attractive. And I figured "Stamped steel? So what? My valve covers and oil pan are all stamped steel and I don't have sealing issues with any of them." So much for that thought. :nonod: Sorry to hear about the pain and suffering, but thanks for spreading the word!:thumbsup:

Dave the PML pan is heavy cast like a mag-hi-tech I'd hot link but I believe some vendors sell the magtech pan, yourcovers.com add in the other stuff if you want to check it out I bought the sand cast unpainted for both diff and trans significantly less than a magtech

The guy I bought the pan from is taking it back no problem. Not his fault he only sells them. Yes the factory gasket is supposed to be reusable and is made much better and even that would'nt seal it. I'm tellin ya I used Aviation Perma tex and let it cure and it leaked like a siv. When I say leaked I don't even mean driving. All I had to do was pull the truck up on car ramps and it ran out in a steady drip. Put the factory pan back on, no leaks.

That is why I posted here and every forum I ever belonged to, so no one lese would go through what I did. I could have drank turpentine and pissed on a brush fire I was so mad yesterday.

Tim - Seems like some months ago, you were describing your pan/diff cover setup to another lister. Can't remember if it was here or over at The Place. At that time, I looked at both the MHT and the PML pans. Mag builds a beautiful pan, but they're mighty proud of it - over $300. My alternative to MHT was a pan from HughesPerformance. Looks very similar to the Mag and $100 cheaper. It comes in sand cast, and I figured I'd clean it and shoot it with low luster black. Great for shedding heat, and it'll keep surface corrosion away.

I really liked the tube setup of the Derale. Seen that in some larger Cat motors - it works. Just never realized that the quality would be so shaky. I realize that this is probably a 'seldom happens' sort of thing, but their QA folks should have caught it. It's great that the seller is standing behind his product and refunding Kenny's $$. But I think I'll steer clear of Derale. :nonod:

i reused the factory pan gasket as the one that came with the trans service kit just looked so cheap and flimsy compared the the factory one. the one in my truck was the stiff composite with steel rings around each bolt hole. Didn't leak at all.

I had no choice and had to use the flimsy style gasket on the blazer as the factory one was in pieces. That one leaked a bit and i had to go over the bolts a few times before i could get the leak to stop.

Hold yer horses a little, boys... I like DeRaile pans... and I know of several that people have had zero issues with. The local Tranny guy, friend of mine, sold piles of them.

I've only heard of one that was crap - Kenny's (and no, I have no doubt it was out-of-whack, pal.)

But still, people make 'em, people screw 'em up... there is nothing made that can't come up like a lemon once in a while. Nothing.

The important thing here (to me) is that the vendor stood behind his part and refunded Kenny's money. I know other vendors like that, and even if a part they sell happens to be defective, I would still be confident buying more stuff from them.

All that being said... good rant, Kenny. You're a pro!
