How many gph filter/ housing would be required for a 6.5 with a few mods and a reflash towing heavy? I cant find it searching.

Thanks! Ive seen them from 15-90 and wondered what the minimum size (at max flow) would work.

The main thing is not to have the filter restrict the flow is all.

Extra capacity in the filters ability to allow fuel flow will not hurt anything.

The Racor 230R2 is a physical size that can be mounted under the hood easily and in a place that allows easy servicing.

My Racor is mounted on a custom bracket using the two front bolts of the ABS unit on the LH side front.

The Racor sits right alongside the alternator on the 95.

When checking the oil one can shine a penlight at the bowl on the filter assembly and see if there is any water or crud in it.

The main things are having enough capacity, being able to mount the thing easily in a place thats secure from damage and easy to get to without having to crawl under the truck.

Also the filter will stay warm in the winter with the block heater working and or during driving.

Beauty is that it takes a spin on cartridge.

I keep a spare bowl in the shop and when I need to change filters I swap the filter and bowl then remove the bowl from the old filter and clean it before installing it on a new cartridge and placing it in a clean plastic bag, ready for next time.

If Im traveling I take my spare and place it behind the rear seat. JUST IN CASE

So you eliminated your factory flt manager all together or still there?

I wanted to do that. I wasn't all that impressed with Factory FM. If you get a heated racor ( do they make them light class) I would have. Maybe use it with a spin on in line.

They make them. I bought the kit that Racor makes for the DMax. Included WIF, heater and wiring harness to tie into factory system. Wasn't cheap but someone was selling it on e-prey.

The D-Max kit is RK32313 - 6.6L Duramax Diesel Filter Kit.

I did have to get new 3/8"NPT-barb fitings and hose because the D-max uses 1/2" hose. Wiring harness install instructions pretty much worked as given.

Their tech support guy can't read a wiring diagram to save his life. It took me a hour or so staring at the wiring diagrams for the 6.6 and 6.5 to make sure I was hooking stuff up correctly.

The only major thing was the power hookup for the fuel heater. The wiring diagram has it labeled differently for the two trucks. Once you get to the bottom of the under hood fuse panel, the wires match the picture for the Racor and the colors are the same.

Other than that it was just tap into wiring for WIF sensor. Colors were the same IIRC.

Most of the time staring at the wiring diagrams was spent trying to find the sensors.
