Question: Engine noise?????

Hi.
Engine in one of my trucks is making a loud "bang". Sounds like a shot bearing, appears intermittenly as, at my knowledge, it should not do if it is a bearing? Sound is like smashing on a piece of heavy metal with a sledghammer? It also seems like it's not running on all cylinders, which also makes me wondering if it's a bearing failure? Don't see why it should not run on all 8 even with a shot bearing?
Pulled the valve covers, no bent pushrods or loose rocker arms. Drained the oil, no chip or alu coloured signs of a seized bearing.

So finally the question is, how much noise is a shot injector or lifter making and how does it sounds like? I've heard that a shot lifter or injector is making quite a sound?

Checked the h balancer, seems ok.

????????????

Sounds like an injector to me. When it does it if you can get it to do it at an idle, crack open the inejctor lines at the injector one at a time to narrow it down to which cylinder is doing it.

Do what Ferminator said. if you find the one then switch that injector with another injector and see I'd the problem is in the same cylinder or it the problem moves. That will tell you if it is the injector.

A bent rod will normally make noise all the time, or whenever the engine is put under load. Injectors can and are known to make loud noises that come and go.
