I think I need to remove my inner well on my 97 on the passenger side to but on my turbo to down pipe clamp and to fix the turbo oil return leak but I am worried. It is rusted along the top, do you think it would go back in ok? I havnt pulled one for a long time, do you have to "bend" it to get it out? I dont think it would bend back

I did the Down pipe clamp from the top.........and the oil return, taking off the rubber/plastic splash flap/shield gives you pretty good access to that area.....check it out.

Take it out. Spray those rusties with PB a few times, and get the air ratchet. The top isn't the part that needs to be bent at all. IF anything the bottom can use a little squeeze to help things along.

Don't even think twice about it. Take it out.

Then everytime here on in it needs to come out, its easy.

Don't forget the battery tray bolt. (Don't need to remove battery, at least on mine). There is a stud inside the air cleaner box, but thats coming out anyway.

Take it out. End of story.

Pick up some black paint too, and clean the piss outta everything you can now see so clearly, and paint it up.

None of the things you mentioned need the fender removed.

Jack the beast up and get the RH front tire off. Remove the splash apron as mentioned.
The oil drain back adapter can be accessed easily.
The down pipe clamp can be reached from above with the air filter unit removed from the engine bay.

Once you access the turbo to exhaust clamp, turn it 90 degrees, so the top of the nut is facing the front of the vehicle. This way, you'll be easily able to get at it with a long extension from the front for the next time you need to remove it.

Use never seaze on the nuts and bolts and anywhere on the exhaust system fasteners.

Getting the air filter box off the truck and out of the way opens up loads of working room.

The downpipe clamp is a bitch no matter what but its doable.

Hint*** Keep a box of Bandaids handy ):h

Been there done that.

HINT**** a small winch strap (used to secure stuff) can be a real +++ when used to help get the down ip back up into place.

Wrap the strap end and hook around the down pipe below the flange and then hook the winch end on the radiator support up front. a few gentle clicks after the strap is tight will get that nasty downpipe right up where it belongs and free your hands to deal with the band clamp..

Both jobs can deff be done with leaving the inner fender on, but it makes things easier once it is off (not saying its fun)

Plus with the inner fender off you can clean grounds if you have time
