Q’s about #3 thrust bearing ware on low mileage 6.5?

Long story short; some of you may remember my dealings with Ted’s Trucks and the two water damaged long blocks I received from them. :BDH:

I finally got a set of 0.030 over pistons, the heads have been done for awhile. I tore down the block last night and found some unusual bearing ware for a low mileage engine. #1 looked like debris went through it, two nice 360degree groves in the the Babbitt with copper showing. #2 mains on the crank has 360degree scratch marks that a fingernail hangs on.

Now here’s the part that is confusing me a little! Both front/rear thrust surfaces of the #3 bearing are showing 75% copper!!!!! Is that normal for a low mileage 6.5? I would think not, since this engine had water erosion in several cyl, I’m really hoping that the crank isn’t bent from water ingestion while running!
Anyone with experience with this, I would greatly appreciate some info!!!!
 
Manual trans? Pilot bearing left in with auto use?

Coolant in the oil will kill bearings faster than clunker bomb! So if you did not replace the bearings since getting the engine coolant and the other water damage would explain it.

These two engines were used HMMWV N/A pullouts (I don’t believe HMMWV ever came manual); they both looked like relatively low mileage units on the inside. They either both sucked up water while operating, or while sitting post-removal at a Depot. There were no signs of coolant in the engines! Just cylinder erosion from standing water, hence the 30-thou overbore needed. The other block is worse!

Short of a 4L80 T/C ballooning up, I can’t figure out this advanced thrust ware on the #3 bearing?
Although, a bent crank from water ingestion could explain it. I guess I’ll have to fork over the dough to have the crank straightness checked.

I realize many people have purchased from Ted’s with great success, I just wasn’t one of them. By the time I get this mess dealt with, I could have just paid nearly the same amount for a warrantied AMG Opti 6.5 long-block!

Hindsight can be a real b*tch sometimes!!!
