Here's my original thread about my problem...http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?t=24005

I found what I hope is my only problem. One of my little nylon Rocker arm retainers had broken off and allowed the push rod to come out of the rocker arm.The rod was just kinda sitting there with a little scuff on it. I ordered new retainers and a push rod. My question is,what is the best way to get the rocker arm and push rod back in place?? Will I need to adjust anything??

BTW....the little tip of the nylon bushing is still in the rockerarm shaft. Will this cause a problem?? It looks like the only way it would come out is to completely remove one of the bolts, but me thinking that's not a good idea.

I'd replace all the buttons as long as it is apart. If one broke, the others might not be far behind. If the tip can't possibly fall out of the rocker shaft, I'd leave it. Sometimes a foreceps or screwdriver can knock them out of there.

Remember to loosen and tighten the bolts for the shaft alternately until loosened or tightened as some valves are open and some closed. Don't want to bend the shaft!:smile5:

As long as the VC is off, replace all the buttons on that side.

Just unbolt the rocker assemblies and lay them out on a clean rag. Lnock off the old buttons and clean out the pieces from the sahft.

Replace the rockers and drive the new buttons in one at a time. Be careful to use a large drift that will cover the head of the button.

Be sure to install the pushrods with the copper colored ball (at times hard to see when the stuff is well used) toward the rockers. (top ball is hard and the other is not so this is important)

When you tighten down the rockers, do so slowly and be sure the valves dont hit a piston.

Once the rockers are tight, roll the engine over several turns by hand to be sure no valves hit the pistons.

Install the VC and button it up. (use high temp silicone on the VC )

Easy job to do.
