Is the sliding plate under the top cover associated with the advance at the bottom of the pump? I did the test someone suggested, push the advance in when its hot and I get no change. I did mess up the shut off solenoid when i put the pump in and when it blocked the sliding plate, it wouldn't rev up, fixed that. It runs good but I guess when that advance piston works, she hauls ass up top, now, she's flat, :(

The advance is a typical failure i remember reading.

The one on my blazer worked, but the pump itself was shot. I've got a few other pumps here that the advance will go in and stay there, instead of moving back out like it's supposed to when you let off the throttle.

I think you can clean the advance piston up, but if the pumps old for the price i'd swap it out with a reman. My reman wasn't a bad price. Not sure if i can list the exact price in the forums, so i won't.

The pump is a low mileage military pump, it comes and goes, :(

Just wondering if the plate on top has anything to do with it as I messed up swapping top covers months ago, :(

How did you swap the top cover? You slid the top cover from the front of the truck to the rear when you installed it right?

Could just be that the advance piston is sticky. I guess you could try cleaning it up. Do you have a junk pump to practice on first just to be safe?

I had to swap the solenoid from a 24 volt and jammed the plate, that started my woe's, :mad2: figured out what I did wrong, fixed it and off we go but its never been an animal, except once in awhile it takes off up in the rpm. Just need to know if they are related. I have a few pumps to practice on,
