On my 1993 extended cab with the 2 part prof shaft I appear to have some clearance on the splines just behind the carrier bearing. I have the poly bearing so it isn't the source of movement. The splines allow what look like a bad u-joint worth of movement up and down.
Just curious as to what the spec is for these if any? I have a vibration at 70+ from the driveshaft and the shop can't balance it out as of 50K ago. Driveshaft used on second 1993 truck has same symptoms. The u-joints were just replaced and has fatigue failure on the bearing surfaces - where the surface was flaking away - full of grease. Driveshaft shop blamed the poly vs. rubber carrier bearing. But the poly eliminated the torque shudder while starting off with a trailer.
I am looking at rebuilding the original driveshaft, but, the cost to press on and off a carrier bearing is 'high'.
