I bought a cheap 1990 chevy c1500 short box regular cab has the 4.3L V6 and nv3500. I have a mechanical 6.5 diesel that runs good sitting around, was thinking of dropping it in the truck. The truck has 3.42 gears, and was thinking of see how good the fuel economy would be.

The truck has a NV3500 but not sure if it would bolt up to a 6.5 diesel. I know that the transmission if beat on will not take the abuse. I have a spare nv4500 that has splines and threads on the end of the shaft was wondering if I could buy a 2wd tail shaft and make the trans a 2wd.

I have 2500 2wd springs for the front to help with the weight of the 6.5.

Would like to know others thoughts.

NV3500 will bolt right up, I can't really comment on how long it'll hold, though. I'd imagine if not abused it will be fine for awhile.

DON't lug it, and use your head while driving it. Lugging it down with a load will KILL it, otherwise you will probably be fine. As far as will it bolt up, yes, srops right in. The 4.3L engine uses the same bolt pattern as the V-8 gassers, and the 6.5L uses the same bellhousing bolt pattern. Find a set of engine mounts to go on the block, a new set of V8 engine mounts for the frame, and drop it in place.

I have a 1993 c2500 donor truck with the engine in it, was going to use the donor to build this truck so it will be as cheap as possible. Thanks guys, for your thoughts, I will not be hauling anything other then some tools and myself back and forth to work. Can I use a 6.5 flywheel and clutch with a stock input shaft on the nv3500.

Can I put a tail housing on my spare nv4500 to make it a 2wd since it had splines and threads which look like it might have been a 2wd transmission.

Use a 6.5 flywheel and clutch, just make sure and use a clutch disc with the correct spline count for your trans choice. The NV4500 can be converted to 2 wheel drive, but you will need to find all the pieces to do it at which point it wouldn't really be feasable.

You are rounding up quite a collection up there me thinks..

Yes Mike, fairly uneventful, a few little things I am anal about but nothing big... me happy ..
