I hitched my gooseneck and it worked ok driving to store. stopped for an hour loaded trailer and on way back it would not show voltage when braking. When I reach down and manually brake the trailer it works.

I guess look at my brake light wire but dang it had worked just previously. I did try and stop and wiggled the connection to the truck - trailer.

Anything else to check? I tried a different boost and turned the thumb wheel both ways with no change.

I wouldn't think ground because it works on the manual control. Are your brake lights coming on when you hit the pedal? If they work then check the connection where the controller is connected. If not first check fuse, then test brake switch.

Looks like a failing brake light switch.

I went to pull the truck in the garage and brake controller worked just briefly. I tested erratic voltage and flickering test light on the red wire coming from switch. I checked my brake lights and they worked then quit working completely. Checked fuse and it was good. So rapidly jiggled the brake pedal just enough to engage the switch and it started working fine.

Hooked up controller and just sitting I tap brakes and get 0.0 output just sitting. I backed up the trailer and pulled forward and controller showed output while stopping.

Its working now but have very little confidence in brake switch. I guess I better look at getting a new brake switch.

I would tend to think its just a normally open switch closes when you press brakes. I wonder if contacts are just dirty and if I should try to spray some electrical cleaner up in there with a straw nozzle.

Tail lights and blinkers are working fine so I would say ground is ok.

Usually the brake switch sticks 'on' when they fail. Not that expensive of a part to just change it.
