:mad2:Ok so I have a problem setting the timing on my pump! When I scan the timing, the desired is 7.7 but the measured is 3.5ish mind you this is BEFORE I hit time set. The truck runs like poop and will only start if I use the block heater. The only way to get the truck to run OK is to turn the pump so the timing is around 7-8.

So one might think the stepper motor is bad right? Well I checked the linkage and wiring and all is good. If I watch the stepper and hit TIME SET I can see the stepper move like it should and the desired goes to 0.0 and the measured stays at 3.5ish.

If the stepper motor is moving and the linkage is all hooked up why is the timing not moving? Is there something wrong with this new pump?

When in Time Set the Des. should be 0 and Meas. 3.5, let Time Set finish then do a Learn. Then see what your Des. and Meas. are out of Time Set

Yes I get how to do it what I'm saying is the des and mess are over anywhere near each other. Even when not in time set. And I can watch the stepper move when I go in and out of time set but the mess never changes

i really think it is in side the pump. I can move the stepper motor linkage up and down and the timing on the tech1 does not change.

just another thought i forgot to add. when i put the pump in, i did not have the tech1 and just put the pump where the old one was. It ran perfect had good power no smoke. drove it for two days then driving, it lost power and started to smoke. i then got the tech1 and found that my timing is correct just does not change with the stepper.

Your stepper motor is not working, it may not be engaging, or its not actually working. You can take the stepper out and put it back in and make sure it is engaging.

i unplugged it and plugged it into another stepper and it moves like it should. i took the one off the pump and move the arm by hand and still get no change in timing. if i move the pump the BASE timing does change so i know the scanner is working

Sounds like the IP is broke then. The stepper motor actually brings the timing down as low as possible and actual timing based on IP position is about 15 degrees before it steps down or up.

Does tech1 show an actual injection pump timing around 29 degrees?
