Probably need a new transfer case - NP 246, GM part# 24228403

I crawled under to check the U joints today.

The good news is the U joints are fine.

The bad news is the transfer case output had movement up and down. About 1/16" I'm guessing.

Any good places to buy a low milage NP 246 tyransfer case?

Are they rebuildable?

Does anybody have a link to a parts explosion?

Is there a possibility that it's just the tail bearing?

How hard are they to work on?

Is there an alternative to Auto Trak II?

Is it leaking oil? Most of mine have a little slop. I believe there is a bushing in the tailshaft housing. The napa seals for those are junk. I'd use a acdelco or gm

I have np241 in my burb, and i dont know if tail is same, but for 241 drivetrain.com sells new bushing and seal, there is also available saver kit to replace that snap ring what causes total destruction to t-case if it fails..
Really simple work to change that bushing and prolly it is your only problem
