I'm about to pull the trigger (no Nick, not that one) on a new printer to replace my 9 yr old HP deskjet (this one) that hasn't worked worth a damn in a LOOOOONG time.
Been looking around. Here's my criteria in order of wants:
1) Print docs Blk & color
2) Scan old photos to send to my hard drive
3) Print photo quality pics
4) Under $150
5) Plug in for direct from camera printing
6) Copier
7) Wireless
I was thinking HP or Epson but I see a good price on 1 from Brother that does what I want (except 6 & 7) at $100 and is endorsed by a couple of college kids I know and a Manager at work who has one at home and one at work.
BBuy has an HP that does all of the above for $100.

Opinions?

Stay away from brother inkjets, they have ink issues. The ink dries up in the delivery area rendering the unit junk.
Spend the extra dollars on laserjet unit. Unit cost is overall cheaper to operate. Plus it produces good results without any ink mess.

When the one I currently have dies I'm going to look at the Kodak printers. They are advertising that the ink won't cost you more than the printer.

My last couple have been Epsons.

I consider inkjets disposable printers. The cost of the ink, not to mention the drying out part, makes them way expensive to keep running. I have a number of inkjets I have thrown away rather than getting new cartridges.

I use a black HP laser for everyday use, and another color inkjet just for photos. The photo printer is getting used less and less.
That laser cartridge usually gets me at least a year of fairly heavy use.

Giving serious thought to this one. $150 right now. Would have liked to go laser but the $ are out of reach...

I bought a Printer for $29 at Sam's the other day. It's doing me fine. :smile5:

It even has a copy & scanner.

I was kinda thinking it should last a couple of years and mostly do a quality scan of old photos. I don't believe $29 is gonna do that for me...;)
But I COULD be wrong...):h

Your right, Most scanners are pretty good with everything right out of the box. I bought a Canon inkjet because I needed the scanner more than the printer out on the road. Just a hint....if you don't use the printer that much...remove the ink cartridges and put the covers back on and store them in the original containers. This will help prevent them from drying out over time.

Also if you want some great software for the scanner you can buy this...Paperport 12.0
It is great as I have been using this for years.
