My wife drove the burb to church this morning with no probs. We traded vehicles and when I went out to leave the truck started slow like the optical sensor wasn't connected.

The truck sputtered and maxed out at about 30 mph on the 2 mile drive home. Came in changed and got my lap top to check the codes. Started it back up and she fired up no probs. Took her for a test drive and all is good now. I cleared the codes and we'll see when they appear again.

The codes are 1216 & 0251 cam timing and fuel metering.

Any thoughts?

It kind of sounds like worse than a failed OS, but the 0251 would point to that. However you could unplug the OS and it wouldnt drive like that. The too short on the pulse width must have been limiting your fuel. Both codes may be set by air in the fuel, that would be my first guess. Check LP operation and check out the fuel lines above the fuel tank. Or if you recently changed out the fuel filter make sure you keyed it properly so that is seats correctly, or check if you have old gaskets left on the filter stacked up.

I did have a fuel leak at the ffm and replaced all the o rings about 2 weeks ago. It could have been air in the system but I think it should have reared its head sooner.

Hmmm...coincidence???

I would recheck filter installation, to make sure its seated right under the plastic nut. The gasket I meant was the one for the filter, sometimes the old one stays and we end up putting new filter with new gasket over the old gasket.

When my OS went bad i had P0370 and P0251. One scanner showed P1216 once(and one other that i can't remember), but the other scanner's didn't show them. Hard starts, loping idle sometimes, stalling, the engine was very loud rattle wise and had no power.

Sometimes it was fine. I was able to drive it for a day or two at a time with no SES light and no issues. Other times i couldn't even turn it over without the SES light coming on. It came and went with a mind of it's own.

Just because all is well now, doesn't mean your out of the woods yet.

The old gasket isn't there because it is the same filter. I pulled the whole ffm out and cleaned it up and replaced the o rings. There are no leaks in about 200 miles since and this is the only problem. It could be air but I've replaced the filter numerous times before and never had this prob so I think it may be the IP going. We'll see.

One other thing... there was no smoke at all. I would think there would be some smoke, wouldn't there?

you may have had white smoke, but you were fuel limited so probably not any black. If the OS was bad and had bad timing then you might get more smoke.

When my OS was bad I'd' get clouds of black/white smoke at startup while it was running rough and loping. After it smoothed out(from 30 seconds to a few minutes) i noticed no abnormal smoke.
