Found a truck locally 92 1 ton HD Rebuilt 6.5 and rebuilt tranny recently repainted white, was red. For sale for $2500 but he seems pretty motivated to sell, just bought 2 NEW 2 ton trucks. Think its worth it?

Yeah, It is the HD model, 4l80E. I mainly need something to haul tractor and self propelled swathers down the highway from field to field. MIGHT put a cake feeder and bale spikes too. The price, mech injection, and new parts are what makes me want it!

I live in NW Oklahoma and only get 15 inches of rain each year. Mud isn't a terrible worry.

Well if it is healthy engine and tranny is certainly worth more than that. Once you know how to keep the DB2 happy with a good aftermarket lift pump, OPS relay mod and FTB it will really kick butt

Aren't all 6.5's happier with FTB and high flow LP? :D

Do all 3500HD's have 4.56 gears or do some have 4.10's? It has 19.5 wheels too. He said it gets 15-16 MPG. Used it to pull a skid steer until he got the 2 tons.

I think they all do if they have 19.5 wheels. This brings the final drive ratio similar to 4.10's w/ 16" factory/factory tire size.

Call him and try to get him to tell you how close to the redzone on the temp gauge it gets. Don't let him know that you know that over 210-220 can be bad.

He should be calling me anytime now. I talked to him about an hour ago and he said he would call back he was still working. I grilled him pretty good for about 5 minutes and he is going to give me his mechanics #. He didn't know anything about the heads, IP, LP, casting #'s, where the engine and tranny came from ANYTHING. Poor fella might be scared to call back and play 20 questions with me!

Yeah. He just called back and gave me his mechanics #. He took it to Red Dirt Auto in OKC. He said a/c never worked, heater works but not good, runs low-mid 2000's on highway, bed is ~11ft, 500 miles on rebuild, 168,000 on the truck. Sent me a few pics the drivers door is caved in and it has the BIG EFFING mirrors, he needs to get his money back from the paint job (if it isn't messed up from phone pics). Bed has jin pole hinges (no poles), tool boxes under bed from cab to rear wheels. He owns a fence building company.

Those undermount boxes alone are worth a few hundred. Sounds like he just doesn't want the ol' girl anymore. His mechanic probably told him to sell it as he doesn't know how to fix em well :)

If it all checks out and everything is as advertised I'd grab it.

You get use to the 'dumbo ear' mirrors :)

Since the drivers door needs a new skin I might just do away with them and put aftermarket tow mirrors on then fix the paint to look good. The bed is a good chunk of steel to sell to fund a new bed built to my specs.

He bought the new 2 tons and has an 01 powerchoke to pull the skid steer.

What is the common tire size of the 19.5 wheels? Are they the same bolt pattern as a regular dually? Would there be any advantage to changing to a wider regular dually axle with 4.56's in it?

3500 HD's have a 10 bolt pattern, you can probably get 19.5 wheels with an 8 bolt pattern.

Looks like I need to get a move on if I want it! He has a guy coming tonight that want the engine and tranny for $2500! And Ive got second dibs after one of his friends!
