Ive got an 01 xpedition 425 that will only run with the choke on full. If i take it down to 1/2 or off entirely itll die. Same thing happens if i try to give it any throttle.
It hasnt gotten ridden in about a 1.5 yrs. Ive gone through and changed oil/filter, siphoned out all the gas and replaced, and changed the spark plug.
I took the carb off yesterday and tried to tear it apart to clean it, but the service manual wasnt very helpful so i didnt go to far. Everything seemed to be moving freely tho, and i sprayed it all down with cleaner, but prolly didnt do to much good. I got a new fuel filter for it this morning, but havent tried it yet.
If this doesnt do it, im kinda stumped as to where to go next....

I bet there's still fuel in the lines causing it to run like garbage.

I agree with the clogged jet, but it is not the main jet. More than likely it is the pilot jet or the needle valve. You need to pull the carb apart and check and clean them all. The carb may have a piece of crap not letting the bowl to get sufficent fuel.

Doesn't the Pilot Jet control everything from Idle to 1/4 throttle, and everything else is Main?

So if it won't Rev up, that's clogged Pilot, no?

Either way, def. pull that Carb. off and check it out. Something is clogged in it, especially after sitting for 1.5 years.

I agree with the pilot or idle ( yes most carbs have 3 not just 2 ) jet. Pull the bowl off ( 4 screws on the bottom ) Look for the 3 jets ( yours may have an idle jet and it may not ) and make sure you can see through them. If not it's time to clean the carb completely. They are very simple to work on. Gasoline can gum up in a matter of a couple of months in the right conditions.

i agree clogged jet also, ive had it happen on mine and my dads honda after mudding and just recently my buddies yamaha big wheel, easy fix though

When choked, the carb uses a different fuel and air circuit. The main is clogged... pull the 17mm plug on the bottom of the bowl, take it out with a 6mm socket and clean it. Mikuni and Keihin carbs are fairly simple to work on.

Kinda forgot about this... Well after I messed with the carb last Sat and changed the fuel filter and some type of inline air filter on what I figure is the vent line? Never seen that before but anyways.
So I started it up and seems to run fine with no choke, but when I half pulled out the carb I think I mightve either broke the cable or it came unhook inside, because there's no action now when I flip the lever. So ill have to pull it back off this weekend i guess and see what the deal is with that now.
I must say that getting to the carb on the quad, makes dealing with the carbs on my prox(sled) look like cakework...
