Been on here a few months but never posted, anyways...

I have a 98 K2500 6.5TD and latley it has started making a pinging sound from the right side around the turbo area. I cain't hear worth a crap so I cain't pinpoint it even with my trusty listening stick over the diesel rattle. I'm thinking it might be an injector or a lifter but it only does it at idle after it has warmed up.

I changed the injectors on it last year sometime If it makes a difference. I got a set of new Herzog's from a guy I know for next to nothing. Never heard tell of 98's giving lifter problems either but it would be my luck. just DO NOT want to burn through a piston. I am not above buying a set of new Bosch injectors if there is any doubt about Herzog.

The pinging could be the turbo heat shield, place your hand on it and see if it stops. There is also a small metal disc on the air pump that can rattle.

I would get rid of the Herzog injectors and replace with Bosch, AC Delco or Stanadyne.

Yeah, I think the Herzogs are gone soon as I can get another set. I know it aint the heat shield cause that was the first thing I tried, IDK bout the pump though. What throws me off is it only does it at idle, and after the engine is warm. I'll probably change the glow plugs over to some Duraterms while I'm in there too.
