Pics of your non-performance supporting mods

I have decided that for the time being, I am so far into my truck $ wise that I am better off keeping it and driving it till the doors fall off. Its got 161k right now and its pretty clean for what it is. By non-performance supporting mods I mean things you can do to make the truck run healthier- oil cooler lines, cooling mods, etc. Part of keeping the truck is going to be blasting and painting the frame, and cleaning everything up underneath. I would like to degrease the front of the frame around the engine, and I figured if I'm gonna be in there I might as well do braided oil cooler lines, check out the rad., etc. So far the truck is stock. Relocated PMD, homemade intake, exhaust, and turbo master. Has good batteries, glow plugs, alternator, turbo, IP, etc. Runs drives stops starts just fine. Plans are 4" exhaust, k47 box, injectors, FRC10. After that, depending on how things go, ATT and chip. That said, what are some things I can do to make the truck healthy and ready to support a little more power? And pics of your installs would be great.

Looks like a solid plan. Maybe do FTB, clean cooling stack, add Fuel/boost PSI gauges and pyro.

x2 on the gauges.
If you're wanting to clean and protect the frame (Frame off restoration), consider pulling the motor so you can really degrease the front end and cross members, clean the engine compartment, add any sound dampening materials / replace the rotting OEM stuff etc.
Order Raceday's Battery Cables and Glow Plug Harness.
Pre LP Fuel Filter.
Tank Sock Delete
New Fuel lines to / from the FFM since you'll want the FTB mod. Might as well get them all replaced under the intake and up from the back.
Might as well raise the FFM to make things easier while your at it.

I agree on the all above. Better to "restore" your old ride and maintain than buy a new truck with a monster payment and when it breaks it is difficult to work on because of the electrics.... traction control, auto this & that. Sounds like a solid plan keep us posted.

Clutch is original to my knowledge.. belt is 2 years old. Truck runs where it should, right around 190 or so at temp.

You might be shocked how much crap is behind oil/trans cooler plugging up the rad. Even up top is alot of dirt you don't see. I spent an hour with compessed air before it was clean.

Yeah I definitely want to pull the front clip and clean out everything thats back there.

like there ain't no electrics in our trucks to worry about...right?:skep::rolleyes5:

:suicide: The fan clutch didn't hold from the factory let alone being over 5 years old. Fan clutches loose 200 RPM a year. I already sent a 6.5 to the scrapyard with the original fan clutch that killed it. Cool weather with no load means you don't need any fan - but add a load or summer heat and a weak fan clutch shows up as overheated AC parts and engine running hot.

I have a low temp Kennedy Diesel fan clutch and a 2002 Duramax fan now.

True enough... I was thinking traction control, stabilitrak, 50 air bags, driver info center, tires that when you rotate you have to recalibrate.... I could go on. For us obd1 guys we can still "talk" to our trucks with a paper clip. The best 6.5 for stupid simple would be a 92-93 with a stick shift.

I agree. When I cleaned behind Little Ds rad there was half a five gallon bucket of leaves and crud between the condenser and the rad and then spent a good half hour maybe more blowing the crud out.

Since you asked for photos of non-performance upgrades, here's a synopsis of the last few years

That should do it for now. The picture of the Feed the Beast Stainless Braided line is proving difficult to load but it runs across the top of the lower intake. I'll try again later

Show-off . . .!!! :hihi:

Who ME?

I blame/thank my fellow 6.5 enthusiasts starting with Jfaire and TurbineDoc. Mostly Doc cause he first talked me off a ledge when the SSD Intake came apart and created a months long Stalling issue sealing off the turbo sporadically. That was 2008 and I'd had the truck a year but was besides myself with frustration. But, I learned how to remove an OPS, Lift Pump, SSD FSD swap, and got my first correct order of an aftermarket part completed...Leroy's 72" PMD extension harness which I'm still using despite replacing the bumper mounted SSD unit with Heath's set up (why mess with what's working?). Thanks Leroy, mostly for not getting too frustrated with me. Doc also gets the blame for showing off his polished aluminum upper intake...that was it! Function and beauty at the same time and I was bit with the beautification bug too.

Then there's the fateful day I met 635 and Bill Heath out on the Salt Flats in 2009. That's started not only a life long friendship but also the long journey to upgrades and experimentation (small scale that it is). Were it not for the members here and from the earlier version of DP, I'd have never started down the 6.5 path to...well...wherever its leading. I didn't really know the difference between a 15-3500 series truck. Having not paid much attention, I thought they were physically bigger the higher the number...now add diesel...and then 6.5L.... It's been a great journey and I still learn stuff. What you guys know and write up about inducers, exducers, turbo mapping, transmission internal functions, torque converter stall (?), IP plungers etc. honestly hurts my head but amazes me at the same time so I try to comprehend.

So, since I'm more than thrice blessed with this truck from; a blind E-Bay purchase to; friends on here and DP that I've exchanged dialogue (and some barbs) with, talked with, met with and have made life long friends with; to my family that supports me and allows me to spend the time and invest the funds in this 'education'...thank you.

So yeah, "showing off" but more to the point, showing off what I've learned from the 6.5ers out there. Thanks for the support and encouragement.
