I am putting the inner fender back in after replacing the injectors and I found a black plastic piece that is 5 sided and looks like 1/2 of a house but instead of having a peak at the top of the roof it is cut off to make the 5th side. There are various #'s on it. Here they are: PP 15554098 z8636, 15667105, & 50176651.

The part has 5 clips moulded into it so it staps in somewhere. I just don't know where. I will try and download some pics.

Here are the pics

LOL!

I have had that piece fall out of 3 trucks that I have pulled the inner fender out of.

I never did figure out what it was for....I just put them on the bench in the shop....I've got a stack of them...

Thanks Chris. I figure it is a cover for something but I can't see where it might go. I actually found it after I put the fender back in and it was on side of the wheel well closest to the cab. It was covering the bottom hole so I figure it goes around there somewhere.

On another note/thread have you read my dilema on the Injectors in an hour thread?

I can't imagine it going inside the bumper. It wasn't anywhere near the bumper. I didn't notice it until I reinstalled the fender.

It's the cover for the muffler bearing housing. It's very important so you better get it back on there or they could suffer from catastrophic failure....You have been Warned!!:wink5:

Seriously....I've had my inner fender off a couple of times and never encountered the mystery cover.

I would say it likely came from the firewal somewhere.

That's what I thought the firewall some where but I can't find opening where it would go. Oh well!

Did a parts search revealed

Surplus inventory offer of GM/General Motors Car Accessories. ... 15667105, COVER F/FDR INR PNL

I had a cover like that on my 88 gasser. When I replaced the fender, that didn't fit. The thing is, mine had a small notch that the antenna wire went through. It goes on the inner fender up near the firewall, I think.

Sorry, not the same, but it does look like it has the same tabs on it. It probably goes into the same type of hole in the fender, just a different one.
I tried looking at mine, but can't tell because of all the insulation everywhere.
