Painted turbo exhaust section?

So, looking ahead to when I remove the turbo to do the injectors and glow plugs (and thermocouple), I was thinking of cleaning up the turbo exhaust section and giving it a little sprucing.

I was thinking black barbecue paint.

Flat black, heat resistant goes right over rust and durable.

I'm settled on black as the heat shield is also black. Compressor stays natural Al.

Any other suggestions?

I'm looking for rust resistant paints that handle the heat for the most part....

I don't know your fund situation, but a ceramic coat would be one I'd consider.

I painted my Diamond Eye Kit with black BBQ paint. Held up perfectly (minus the clamps which are rusted to hell) 1 year later. So something else must be coming into play besides the paint.

I have also always heard black sheds heat the best.

I painted the aluminum compressor housing with aluminum engine paint and a couple coats of clear.The paint makes it easier to keep clean:thumbsup:

yea Id go with the VHT 2000`F paint, I used it on the exhaust piping for a 350hp JohnDeere firepump and it has held up perfectly. I would definitally use it again.

My manifolds, crossover, turbo exhaust housing, and whole exhaust is painted with 2000* VHT and it held up great sofar.

I scuffed up my chrome tip with some steel wool and used the high temp bbq paint and looks great. Every now and then I sand it down and repaint, but not very often. That high temp paint holds up pretty damn good.

I like Eastwood's Stainless Steel paint for exhaust manifolds. Holds up for several years at least, but does show smudges from grease and such.

I'll be using it on the turbo compressor housing and crossover pipe soon, we'll see how it holds up there.

I painted the exhaust housing with black VHT and had the intake housing & heat shield powder coated in hammertone silver.
I also painted the downpipe, manifolds & crossover with black VHT.
Seems to be holding up so far.

I've always had a special place in my heart for "hammer tone".

That's a good application for it.

Not sure if I'll "steal it" yet, but I'm thinking about it....it would look nice with the Detroit blue scheme I have in mind....
