Well after I spent an hour trying to pefectly mask off my brand new GMC emblem, it still came out like crap paint still got where I didnt want it and the dog must of knocked it over when it was in the garage, anyways it came out looking like crap, so I thought there must be a better way, I thought about throwing it in the oven and peeling it off, using a heat gun and a screw driver to pry it off. I didnt put it in the oven but I did screw the chrome base the letters sit in all up from trying to pry it out. But after all that screwing around I finally got it.

You'll need a

medium sized phillips head screw driver
flat head screw driver with a 3/16" or so tip
drill with a 1/4" bit

You'll need to drill holes on the back side of the emblem to push out the G and the C. The M comes with holes already in it. The place to drill is about a 1/4" away from the end of the letters. Go slow just enough to drill through the chrome base and just to expose a little bit of the red letter. I then used a screw driver on the backside to push the letter outwards, while it was pushed outwards I then took the flat head screwdriver and pryed it underneath the letter, I then followed the direction of the letter gently prying and pushing forward seperating the letter from the chrome base.

Then all you'll have to do is just throw them on a piece of cardboard and hit them with paint, and use your choice of automotive adhesive to glue the letters back into place.

The first picture shows the original holes in the letter M and where I drilled the hole in the letter G and how deep I went.

The second picture shows the phillips head in the backside pushing up on the letter, and the gap that I slip the flathead into.

The emblem is all dirty after my butchered original paint job.

I wouldn't scrape it...there are chemicals that work much better...less chance of creating a flaw from scraping it in your paint job...

honestly I'm not an expert by any means...I know in the debadging truck thread some people mention some good chemicals...I'll try to find it...

scraped and sanded all the old paint from the first paint job off, with it with black a few times, wet sanded it and then buffed them, I'm relatively pleased with them. Time will tell whether or not I like it more than the factory red.

I like it better black. My grille is the factory black and grey so I painted mine white to match the truck for now because all of my trim is black and the white stands out better. I tried black but it disappears on the factory grille. I am bringing mine in next week to have the grille trim painted white but the grille left black. also the lower air dam painted and the rear bumper but leaving the plastic black on the rear as my handles and flares are black.
Your front end would look a whole lot better with the black plastic trim filler painted match the truck. Just my 2 cents.

I've debated getting that painted I may end up getting it done when I find a new bumper:mad2: Thanks for the compliment

it looks like someone started to do an install of a fisher plow on your truck NIck. whats with the piece missing out of your valence under the tow hook?

Long story...Trying to be a nice neighbor, apparently my parents neighbors are a bunch of meth head and tried baja'ing a dodge shadow, got it stuck and tryed to pull it out with a van. I pull the van out. Then in the process of pulling the Shadow out, my truck fell in a rut left by the van. I went to the farm to get a tractor to pull my truck out, but when we were pulling my truck out, the guy I let go in my truck to help steer it out, decided to floor it, let a whole bunch of slack in the chain, the chain came unhooked and ripped a huge hole right there, I just finished it off with the sawzall. Thats all, worst part is I got the whole front end fixed in January. Last time I try being a good guy I guess, unless its for some really good looking women...):h lesson learned I guess
